Country Day is a private, independent, non-denominational, co-ed, Pre-K through 12 school.
Flags Fly for Country Day! We officially kicked off the 96th academic year at our Opening Ceremony. It’s good it’s good it’s good to belong to Country Day! ❤️💙❤️💙
As we kick off this school year, we're thrilled to welcome our amazing new faculty and staff to the Country Day family! They're all set for an incredible year, and we can't wait for you to get to know them and see them around campus! Welcome, Cajuns!!
On Thursday, June 6, the Caroline and Bo Reily family and other generous supporters gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of Freedom Field, a new turf athletic field that will be installed on Country Day’s campus in the upcoming months, with an anticipated completion date in fall 2024. The Reily family is also excited to donate a new scoreboard in memory of their son Jack Reily ‘11.
Reflecting on the project, Head of School Rob Hereford remarked, “This is an extraordinary moment in the history of Country Day. Thanks to the generosity of the Reily family and friends, our School will now have a state-of-the-art field where our student-athletes can play and train year-round. This versatile field will accommodate multiple sports, including football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ track and field, as well as our physical education programs across all divisions."
The field, named Freedom Field, honors the inspiring words of Country Day’s founding Head of School, Ralph Boothby:
“To satisfy the needs of the individual child; Freedom to develop naturally, which does not mean license to invade other people's rights. Attention to play and physical development for every child. The utilization of children's interests for educational ends. A large place for beauty in nature, in art, in music. Friendly relationship between pupils and teachers, with teachers functioning as guides rather than taskmasters. Such cooperation between school and home as will make the two, supplementing each other, provide for the whole development of the child.”
This exciting development reflects the School's commitment to providing exceptional facilities for our students. We extend our gratitude to the Reily family and all the supporters who have made Freedom Field a reality. We look forward to watching our students thrive on this new field, embodying the values and vision that have guided Country Day since its founding, and continuing our tradition of excellence in both academics and athletics.
We officially celebrated our 95th academic year at last Friday’s Closing Ceremony, and what a fantastic year it has been! Watching our red and blue flag runners take their lap around the gym was a highlight and a big congratulations to the RED team for winning this year's Red and Blue Competition and taking the victory lap!
We also honored outgoing Board Chair Jennifer Heebe and Lower School Faculty member Eileen Hardin, who is retiring after an incredible 40 years of service to Country Day. As tradition holds, our longest-tenured faculty member, Madame Ellis, rang the bell 95 times to signify the closing of the year.
It’s good, it’s good, it’s good to belong to Country Day! ❤️💙❤️💙

Senior Jane Thompson is the third young woman in Louisiana to be named an Eagle Scout!
Eagle Scout represents the pinnacle of achievement in Scouting for young individuals. About 5% of all Scouts ever attain this prestigious rank. Since its inception in 1912, over 2 million young men have earned the esteemed title of Eagle Scout within the Boy Scouts of America. Notably, in Louisiana, only four young women have achieved this distinction, with senior Jane Thompson standing as the third in the state to receive this honor.

Each year, thousands apply to the U.S. Air Force Academy, but only a select few are chosen. We are excited to share that senior Pierce Hatheway has been appointed to the Academy. Pierce’s appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy is equal to receiving a four-year, full scholarship at a top-tier university. His rigorous selection process included physical assessments, Congressional nomination, and interviews. At the Academy, appointed students undertake diverse programs like flying, parachuting, athletics, military training, and more while completing a comprehensive college curriculum. Upon graduation, they become second lieutenant officers in the U.S. Air Force or U.S. Space Force, serving in various career fields for at least five years.
Congratulations to Pierce on this tremendous achievement and honor!

Owen is a recipient of Centenery's President's Scholarship, a merit-based scholarship, as well as being a baseball recruit. Owen's passion for the game has been evident since he was just 5 years old. Beyond playing, he has shared his skills by coaching 9-10-year-olds at Carrollton and has been mentored and coached for 13 years through NOCA, his travel team. Owen serves as team captain at Country Day, excelling as a left-handed pitcher, first baseman, and right fielder.
