If you've been suffering with headaches, it's important to have a comprehensive evaluation of the tempromandibular joint to determine if it is contributing to pain.

It is very common that inflammation in the TMJ causes headaches, due to changes in head posture.

When musculature is overworked and overused, we get headaches as posture and structures deteriorate.

If the function of the airway and soft tissue (lips and tongue) are not ideal, growth of the jaws is going to be less than optimal.

Crooked and crowded teeth, crossbites, and open bites are caused by dysfunction in the airway and jaw joint musculature!

Normal jaw growth and tooth position is dependent on good function.

We see patients often present with fatigue, crooked teeth, narrow arches, and neck pain or headaches - and it all starts with the way we breathe!

We are often asked why teeth can have so much damage from clenching and grinding - this is why!

When we are asleep, we cannot control the force of our musculature the same way we can when we are awake.

Normal chewing puts approximately 20-40 pounds of pressure on our teeth and jaws. Clenching during sleep can INCREASE to 250 pounds of pressure!

The brain's protective mechanisms don't work the same way when we're unconscious, so we can really injure our jaw joint and teeth!

If you clench and grind during sleep, it's time to make sure your airway health is evaluated and you haven't had arthritic or degenerative changes to your jaw joint.

If your child complains of headaches (either occasionally or often), it's time for an evaluation.

Children do not complain of pain as adults do (because they're more adaptable and resilient)! They also do not have a broad frame of reference to know that others do not get headaches frequently.

When they complain of headaches, we should listen.

It's common to think that people who have a sleep breathing disorder have to snore - and that's not true!

Snoring is a very common among patients with sleep breathing disorders, but it is one of many possible symptoms!

Snoring is the sound made when air vibrates through areas of poor muscle tone or limited space due to a patient's anatomy.

Snoring can also be made worse by factors such as alcohol consumption, allergies, or being overweight.

It's especially important to remember - suffocation is silent! This is why it's incredibly important to evaluate all possible symptoms.

It is known that while pregnant, women tend to suffer more profoundly from sleep breathing disorders.
