Update: Facts not Fiction courtesy of South Florida Business Journal

For the record, Churchills was not a victim of the pandemic. Churchill’s closure lays solely on the shady actions of the landlord, Mallory Kauderer, and his lackeys.

We’ve made it clear since the onset, this issue relates to the entire Little Haiti community, and people deserve to know the truth.

We don’t need a reminder, & we’ll never accept it.

What would you do if someone took the money intended to help your business, your employees, & the music scene survive through the pandemic?

Would you fight back, or would you roll over?

June 12th is a “special” anniversary for us...one with significant meaning. In the middle of a global pandemic, our landlord decided Churchills future for everyone.

Greed is a motherf@ .

In 2014, there was a documentary being made about these stages going away...that didn’t quite happen.

Since then, we’ve enjoyed a ridiculous amount of unforgettable shows & epic performances, and Churchills has remained the hub for live music in our city.

We’ve known since day 1 what Churchills means to Miami’s music scene & we have stayed true to our commitments.

good news coming...

“Music’s not just a weekend entertainment thing. It’s our lives.”

Bring Music Home is a multi-media project whose mission is to share stories documenting the people and places of live music. The COVID-19 pandemic forced most independent music venues to shut down nationwide and even with the Act passing, there’s a lot of work to be done to restore the live music industry. Through its book and upcoming docu-series and podcast, Bring Music Home is aiming to shine a light on this industry that was the first to close and will be the last to fully open. Our 9 pound, 500-page book highlights over 200 independent music venues during the pandemic, with a portion of its proceeds going to to help save our stages. We will continue to fight for Churchills. 👊🏼

Mallory Kauderer and his partners (Donita Leavitt & James Goldstein) are responsible for Churchills being closed.

They have taken SBA funds from the business, committed self-help, restraint of trade, intimidation, & retaliation, all while playing the victim & lying to the public.

We had absolutely NO ISSUES until Kauderer took SBA funds & demanded financial information for refinancing their real estate portfolio.

Little Haiti Development Partners LP & Downtown Little Haiti Opporunity Zone (DLHOZ) are the culprits, and the courts will hear the facts.

Kauderer spent 4 MONTHS hiding from process servers, acting like the courts are slow due to pandemic. Kauderer inactivated the liquor license closing Churchills, WE SHOULD BE OPEN!!!!!!

Today marks one year since we stopped doing live events at Churchills....it’s been painful, unpredictable, and wildly confusing.

On 3/15/2020, we closed our doors to support our country and to help protect each other from the unknown. One year later, nearly 550k lives lost, and countless others still feeling the effects of something that could have been better prevented. Over this past year we’ve faced challenges that have been deeply unsettling and have made difficult decisions that impacted our business, our employees, and our families.

We’ve been frustrated as state unemployment failed our team members, government aid overlooked independent venues, and landlords weaponized COVID’s impact to fulfill their gross agendas.

Both the bar industry and the music community has been deeply impacted by the pandemic, and many venues aren’t as fortunate as we are to still be fighting. It hasn’t come without its fair share of challenges, but we’ve continued to push forward with confidence our best days are ahead.

We just ask for your continued support and encouragement as we escalate our fight against these disgusting landlords and their amateur tactics. We’re going to show them just how important Churchills is to us & how they should NEVER underestimate people that believe in each other and believe in themselves.

We’re SO EXCITED to announce the launch of the book which is available to pre-order TODAY at bringmusichome.com! 📚

Created remotely over seven months during the COVID-19 pandemic, the book captures the stories of nearly 200 music venues in over 30 US cities and the unsung heroes behind them. As venues coast to coast have been forced to shutter and hundreds of thousands of music industry employees have been laid off, a team of over 60 independent photographers, producers, designers, and collaborators have joined together to donate their time to capture this collective experience and showcase the local venues that are integral to the creative culture of their communities.

The 400-page hardback book can be pre-ordered starting today at bringmusichome.com with projected shipping in January. Upon purchase, a portion of the proceeds will directly benefit , as well as support over 60 creatives who helped make this project a reality, many of whom were directly impacted by the pandemic. A huge thank you to Tito's Handmade Vodka and for helping make this book come to life!

Murals to celebrate the book launch will begin appearing in cities in early 2021. A podcast, documentary, and global editions of BMH are also in the works. The project has recently wrapped in Seoul, South Korea, shot by Hong Sukwoo and Tae-Kyun Kim, with Australia launching next.

PLEASE SHARE & TAKE ACTION!
More than 2 million people have written to Congress asking our representatives to pass the Save Our Stages Act. Senator , it’s time you fought to protect us. You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone. The Arts in Florida was built on the backs of Small business owners. Without support, over 100 independent venues, which are small businesses in the Sunshine State will be eviscerated. Along with those venues will be thousands of employees displaced.

📹 SHUTDOWN 🔥
Shutdown is a short documentary film that explores the world of music venues struggling to survive in the midst of COVID-19. It’s a cold hard look at what’s currently happening to the soul of live music as venues across the nation continue to fight for their very existence. 90 percent of music venues will close their doors permanently if congress does not take action soon. These spaces are integral parts of our culture and our communities. This film tells their story. -NIVA

Featured in the documentary is NIVA Executive Director Rev. Moose, as well as several member venues including Alex's Bar, 4th Street Vine and Supply & Demand.

🚨 If you’re not aware, Boot & Saddle (Philadelphia, PA) just closed it’s doors for good, a tough blow to the Philly scene. Raise a glass for the B & S crew, respect. 🥃

Unfortunately, our account has been compromised. Ian Michael Loughlin aka “dangerfun” claims to be an IT consultant for hire. He is nothing more than a low budget hacker. This is what he does to his “clients.” Here he is attacking our FB page, after already hacking our IG account. He has deleted all of the posts about our sham eviction. Why do they need to hide behind shady tactics? Ian is a disgrace to entrepreneurs, small businesses, & IT professionals. Ian, keep hiding the landlords secrets and doing his dirt. HE IS DELETING EVERYTHING WE POST 😂 🐍

A lot of people are asking about our eviction proceedings. We encourage anybody that is confused or feels they have been misinformed, to better educate yourself through public records.

We NEVER intended for any of this to become a public spectacle. Although embarrassed of the portrayal of the situation, we’ve asked everyone to be patient and follow the facts. This isn’t just about us, it’s about our Little Haiti community & Miami music.

See for yourself...

We’re still here, still fighting!
Our landlord said the eviction was done, the summons a formality...that we didn’t meet our “obligation.”
Looks like it’s a little more complex than that, doesn’t it. The fact is, it’s our landlord that never met his obligations. Now, it’s on!

Photos from Churchills Miami's post 09/13/2020

So the landowner started the eviction process, big deal.

All across the country communities have come together to resist evictions during COVID lockdown.

We’re not surprised we’ve anticipated it. Why? We simply refused to allow the landowner to use our business to benefit themselves and their agenda.

In March we proudly closed our doors to protect our health care workers on the front lines of COVID and protect our community. We successfully worked out rent reductions with both real estate lender and landlord, and researched federal economic programs developed to support businesses survive during these times. We exercised patience and compliance with all programs while the government revised rules to what was hastily rolled out. We backstopped our government when they needed us & we expected the government to do the same in return.

Unfortunately, we discovered that our landlord represented themselves as the business operator and secured government funds using our business.
We have all the history, all the supporting documents, and the unbridled right to defend our lease and future of our business. We’ve offered our landlord the opportunity to address the situation with corrective action, but have been met with retaliation. Not just at Churchill’s, we’ve been served evictions across all properties we lease. We currently lease 35% of the landlords properties in the area & they are aware of our commitment to Little Haiti. We have improved all of their properties at our expense with the expectation that they will meet the agreements we developed with them.

These are very wealthy, powerful people in the real estate industry & they do not serve our community and music scene.

This isn’t about social media accounts, this isn’t about unpaid rents, this is about JUSTICE. Unfortunately, we have an 1099 independent contractor working against us, trying to create a false narrative for what’s happening. He does not fully understand the position he has put himself and the music community in. The facts will support us, we ask for your support in our community.
