Hereā€™s an easy and fun way to teach your little one new wordsšŸ‘‡šŸ¼

Sing and add gestures to songs! Gestures give clues to what words mean.

If your singing ā€œThe wheels on the busā€ roll your arms or if your singing ā€œopen shut themā€ open and shut your hands!

What is your childā€™s favorite song to sing?

If youā€™re new here, welcome! My name is Brenda. Iā€™m a certified speech language pathologist. I love sharing tips to help you get your child talking and saying new words!

This is my most frequently asked question as a speech pathologist.

I have mixed feeling about this question because the number of words a child has is not a full picture of their language development. So keep that in mind.

So what do you do if your child is not saying as many words as they ā€œshouldā€? DONā€™T stress! Talk to an SLP! Learn ways you can help your child learn more words at home.

And if your currently in a situation where your child is in therapy or youā€™re being intentional in supporting their language development then donā€™t even look or stress over these numbers because THEY DONā€™T MATTER! Meet your child where they are and enjoy their journey! These numbers donā€™t define who they will become or what kind of parent you are ā¤ļø!

Knowing what steps to take next is key!

If your child isnā€™t imitating gestures and you focus on getting them to imitate words you are skipping a step.

When your child is learning to walk first they roll, then sit, then crawl, then stand, and finally start walking. Itā€™s the same thing with language.

Your child doesnā€™t go from cooing to saying words overnight. Thereā€™s a step by step process.

Iā€™ll teach you these exact steps inside of Tiny Talkers Academy so that your child can go from no words to talking in full sentences as fast as possible!

You can do this during your everyday routines! No extra time or fancy activities needed!

Most people donā€™t realize how important communication skills are.

Itā€™s the one skill that can determine someoneā€™s success in life, whether itā€™s a child asking for help, expressing their feelings, or an adult making connections or resolving conflict.

The ability to communicate effectively is a game-changer.

Imagine your little one confidently telling you what they need, sharing their thoughts, and connecting with others. Thatā€™s not just a milestoneā€”itā€™s a foundation for their future success.

Investing in your childā€™s communication skills now isnā€™t just about today; itā€™s about empowering them for a lifetime.

Hereā€™s what your child needs to help promote their language skills šŸ‘‡šŸ¼

An adult to model language and a rich language environmentā€¦

A daycare may or may not help provide these things.

Hereā€™s what the research saysā€¦ The biggest difference maker in a childā€™s language development is a parent that knows speech therapy strategies!

When you learn speech therapy strategies and apply them at home you can help your child say more words and communicate their wants and needs.

šŸ‘‡šŸ¼Why these words?

Itā€™s simple reallyā€¦
These words will help a child get their wants and needs met.

When toddlers arenā€™t able to express their wants and needs this often times results in a tantrum, hitting, crying, and lots of frustration.

Sure, I expose my kids to a variety of words like ā€œcowā€ and ā€œballā€, but I focus on words that will help get those needs met.

I dive a little deeper into this topic in my free masterclass.

Little one working on their language milestones??

šŸ‘šŸ¼Letā€™s do it together!

šŸ‘‹šŸ¼Hi there, Iā€™m Brenda!

As a mom and speech pathologist, Iā€™ve combined love, science, and a whole lot of fun to help you get your little one talking in ways that fit right into your busy life. šŸŒˆāœØ

I was a mom before I was an SLP. I remember I used to drill my oldest daughter with flashcards, desperately trying to get her to learn new words.

šŸ˜“It was boring for her and exhausting for me. Talk about a lot of work for not a lot of gain.

After becoming an SLP I had 3 more daughters. And letā€™s say things went way differently. By the age of 2, all three of them were using 6 word sentences to communicate.

I coached parents on these strategies in private sessions. As I watched more and more families experience success using these strategies I created Tiny Talkers Speech.Ā

I created Tiny Talkers Speech because I want YOU to experience the same results.

Dive into our Tiny Talkers family and learn just how easy it can be to support your childā€™s language development.

Drop a hello in the comments and tell me something about you and your little one.

ā“Constantly asking our kids questions can make them feel like they are being quizzed, can take the fun out of playing, and doesnā€™t teach them anything.

šŸ’¬I know we talk often about how many words a child has but communication is more than words!

Communication also consist of eye contact, joint attention, and gestures!

šŸ‘‰šŸ½If your child is not yet using words it is important to be aware of their nonverbal communication such as gestures and you will notice that your child is in fact communicating!

šŸ‘‡šŸ¼Make sure youā€™re doing this when teaching your child sign!šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

Teaching your baby or toddler sign will NOT cause language delay.

In fact, research has shown that using sign language actually increases a childā€™s verbal skills.

When teaching your baby sign, make sure to always pair the sign with the verbal word and always use the word in the correct context!

Letā€™s admit it, we all do it! When we want our child to say a word we tell them ā€œSay _____!ā€ in an effort to get them to imitate the word!
āœØWhatā€™s the big deal with using the word ā€œsayā€? Telling your child to say something puts pressure on them to talk and may cause them not to talk.
āœØLetā€™s say you want your child to say ā€œshoeā€ while getting dressed:
šŸ™…šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøINSTEAD OF telling your child ā€œSay shoe!ā€
šŸ‘šŸ½Repeat and model the word ā€œshoeā€ 3-5 times with pauses in between while putting on their shoe.
āœØI know itā€™s difficult to avoid the word ā€œsayā€! It definitely was for me!
āœØIs this something you struggle with?
