Every Thursday We Sample Wine
Every Thursday, from 5:30-7:30 we pour you some samples of some wines. Come in, grab some samples. Pick your favorite wine and grab some food and enjoy the market with some friends!
This week we're pouring:
Obsidian Cabernet Sauvignon (2021, Volcanic Estate)
This Cabernet Sauvignon from the Obsidian Ridge Vineyard delivers rich, bold flavors. The volcanic soil imparts a distinctive mineral character, complementing notes of dark fruits like blackberry and plum. On the palate, you'll find a hint of spice, with well-integrated tannins leading to a long, smooth finish. Perfect for pairing with grilled meats or hearty dishes.
Ostatu Rosado (2023, Rioja Alavesa)
A fresh and vibrant rosé from Rioja, the Ostatu Rosado 2023 showcases a light salmon-pink hue. On the nose, it offers bright red berry aromas, such as strawberry and raspberry, with a hint of citrus. It's a real strawberry bomb! The palate is crisp and lively, with balanced acidity and a refreshing finish. It’s a great choice for lighter fare, seafood.
Arona Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)
This New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is typical of the region, bursting with intense tropical fruit flavors like passionfruit, guava, and hints of citrus. It’s vibrant and zesty, with a crisp acidity that provides excellent balance. Expect a long, refreshing finish with a slight herbal edge. It pairs beautifully with salads, light appetizers, or fresh seafood.
Torre Oria Cava Brut
The Torre Oria Cava is a sparkling wine made in the traditional method from Spain. It exhibits fine bubbles and a lively character. On the nose, expect aromas of green apple, pear, and a touch of citrus. The palate is dry and crisp, with a refreshing minerality and balanced acidity. A fantastic wine to kick off the tasting or enjoy with appetizers and tapas.

I've been operating St. Roch Market for a year now
It's been a year I've been on this project! That new online news service Axios did a great article on the market giving the update on how things have been going. (https://www.axios.com/local/new-orleans/2024/10/09/st-roch-market-vendors-food-hall-kevin-pedeaux) It's been work that's for sure!
I really want New Orleans to have a space for people to start up their business dreams through their creativity not because they have the capital to do it. I've done it with CR Coffee Shop, the Daily Beet, Fritai and Good Bird are all businesses in New Orleans today because of the existence of this historical space.
I do have one vendor stall open that I'm going though applications for the stall and talking to potential vendors to find the right one now. So if you or someone you know wants to start their own food business now is a great time to reach out. Follow this link here: https://www.strochmarket.com/contact

From Pop-Ups to Prime Time: Olive Cheese and Crackers' St. Roch Market Journey
What began as a Thursday night pop-up has blossomed into a full-time vendor stall at St. Roch Market. Troy and Alison Barrios, the dynamic husband-wife duo behind Olive Cheese and Crackers, first captured the market’s attention with their curated charcuterie boards during wine tasting events.
Their love for fine cheese, olives, and artisanal pairings led them to expand their presence—first to Saturdays, and now, they’re in the market six days a week. With the real estate world facing local and national challenges, the timing was perfect for them to dive into their culinary passion.
Alison’s dream of offering cool, creative charcuterie boards has come to life in a big way. Soon, they’ll be open Sundays too, with an exciting new Brunch Board Menu that’s sure to be a hit.
Check out their new full menu below. They've got lunch, snacks, and fresh baked cookies. Also, you can order one of their charcuterie boards online to be delivered if you've got friends or family coming over to the house. Or come by St. Roch Market and enjoy a board and a bottle of wines for a get together at the market.
The Barrios are still active in their real estate brokerage (https://www.barriosrealestate.com/) , but their heart has found a home at the market. Stop by and experience their delicious offerings—crafted with love, creativity, and a flair for all things gourmet!
