🌟 Obtaining the Attention Needed 🌟

Meet Khyara, a brave young girl living with epilepsy since she was just a baby. Diagnosed with West Syndrome and later Lennox-Gasteaut Syndrome, her journey has been challenging. Seeking better resources, Khyara's mom, Tania, moved from Honduras to Miami in January 2023. 🇭🇳➡️🇺🇸

Upon arriving, they faced difficulties accessing the needed services and insurance. After much research, Tania found Epilepsy Alliance Florida (EAFLA). By May 2023, EAFLA stepped in to help Khyara get medical services and much-needed neurological care.

In just three months, Khyara saw a neurologist, received medication, and joined support groups. EAFLA not only provided medical assistance but also covered the costs and introduced them to community events. These events helped Khyara make new friends and Tania connect with other families.

With EAFLA's support, Tania secured insurance for Khyara, ensuring continuous care from various specialists. Now, Khyara enjoys meeting other kids with epilepsy and participating in fun activities, bringing joy and hope to their new life in Miami. 💜✨

✨Meet Yammara, a resilient warrior who's been part of Epilepsy Alliance Florida (EAFLA) since moving to Miami in 2006.

Yammara had her first seizure at 11, battling frequent tonic-clonic seizures that persisted despite countless treatments. Uninsured and desperate for consistent care, she found the support she needed with EAFLA. Through their unwavering support, she continued her neurological treatments, accessed medications, and secured disability benefits and insurance.

Even after gaining insurance, Yammara remained part of the EAFLA family, finding a sanctuary where she felt understood and supported.

In 2018, after years of perseverance, her seizures began to decline, reaching a point of control. Empowered by her newfound stability, she embraced motherhood, welcoming a daughter into her life.

As a single mother in a challenging economy, Yammara faced many obstacles, but EAFLA stood by her side, guiding her to community resources that offered financial assistance for essential needs like rent. Through their unwavering support, Yammara navigated the complexities of single motherhood with resilience, knowing she had a family at EAFLA to lean on. 💜✨

📜💜 Florida HB 173 brings crucial changes to how schools support students with epilepsy. This legislation mandates that all school personnel interacting with students who have epilepsy receive training on seizure recognition and response, ensuring staff are well-prepared to handle seizures effectively. Additionally, it requires each student with epilepsy to have a comprehensive Seizure Action Plan in place at their school.

These provisions aim to create a safer, more informed school environment, providing students and their families with much-needed peace of mind. 🌟

1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime, so it's important to make sure others know how to respond in case of a seizure. Most seizures are not medical emergencies and will end on their own. Make sure to stay calm and help to make sure the person having the seizure is safe.
