Free Legal Clinic: Landlord/Tenant Assistance TODAY!

Today, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, join Wilkie D. at the Naranja Branch Library for a Landlord/Tenant Legal Clinic, hosted in collaboration with Miami-Dade County and the Public Library System. This event offers free consultations for individuals seeking guidance on landlord and tenant issues. Our experienced attorneys will be available to provide valuable advice and support.

Wilkie D.’s Summer Soirée at The Citadel in Miami on Friday, August 9th was a great success. We welcomed a wonderful group of guests who came together for a vibrant evening.

The Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association is delighted to announce the success of its Back to School Drive, held in collaboration with the Historic Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum. On Friday, August 9th, Wilkie D. and its partners distributed more than 126 backpacks filled with school supplies to Miami children in elementary, middle, and high school.

Special thanks to all our partners, especially Grow, Glow, and Giveback.

Did you know? Florida’s Amendment 4 restored voting rights in 2018, but outstanding fees can still prevent Returning Citizens from voting.

You can help! The Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association is seeking volunteer attorneys to assist with petitioning courts to waive these fees. It takes just one petition to make a significant difference, and many courts resolve them quickly.

This week Wilkie D. is honored to spotlight Attorney TerryAnn S. Howell. Attorney Howell is the founder and managing partner of The Law Office of TerryAnn S. Howell, P.A., and the immediate past president of the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association. She specializes in civil, commercial, real estate litigation and immigration matters, while also offering comprehensive guidance to business owners on day-to-day operations and employment matters.

Attorney Howell has also been recognized as a 2024 Rising Star by Super Lawyers! Congratulations TerryAnn!! ✨✨✨

Wilkie D. and other esteemed organizations recently co-hosted a virtual judicial forum that proved to be both informative and engaging. It was a valuable opportunity to hear directly from judicial candidates about their judicial philosophy, priorities, and visions for our judiciary.

The candidates present included Heloiza Correra, Esq., Christopher Benjamin, Esq., Bonita Jones-Peabody, Esq., Jason Bloch, Esq. and Judge Christopher Green.

The event featured a dynamic Q&A session, where members’ questions were thoughtfully addressed by the candidates. The forum provided crucial insights for those interested in the future direction of our Miami-Dade County Circuit Court judicial system. Wilkie D. Immediate Past President TerryAnn S. Howell queried candidates on behalf of the Association.

The Books & Books Literary Foundation and the Adrienne Arsht Center proudly join forces to present an evening with Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to be appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. In her inspiring new memoir, LOVELY ONE (Random House, $35), Justice Jackson chronicles her life story and extraordinary path to becoming a jurist on America’s highest court.
