Unity Foundation of La Porte County is awarding nearly $350,000 in scholarships to 148 students for the 2024-2025 academic year. The recipients are attending 48 colleges and universities across the United States. Since 1992, Unity has awarded approximately $4 million from sixty scholarship funds to help area students advance their education.

Did you know you can open a fund with Unity to assist in historical preservation? The Washington Park Bandstand Restoration and Maintenance Fund supports maintenance of the historic bandstand in Washington Park. Over the holiday weekend the Michigan City Parks & Recreation Department held a ribbon cutting and rededication to celebrate their project's completion.

We had so much fun surprising Joy Elementary School's Josie Southworth and her energetic students with a classroom grant from the Random Acts of Kindness Fund of Unity Foundation. "She has gone beyond the duties required by her job to care for her children. She has shown compassion for not only their academic growth but also their mental and emotional growth and well being. She is awesome and it has been an honor to have her as my child's teacher," shared a community member who nominated Josie.

We are grateful for all of our amazing La Porte County teachers! Thank you to everyone who took the time to tell us about them.

This morning we surprised La Porte High School's Dan Olson mid-lesson with a classroom grant from the Random Acts of Kindness Fund of Unity Foundation. The community member who nominated him shared, “He’s funny. The kids love him. He uses poker to teach statistics. It’s their favorite day of the year. Statistics!"

Today we surprised Kyle McCallum at South Central High School-Union Mills with a classroom grant from the Random Acts of Kindness Fund of Unity Foundation. The community member who nominated him wrote, “Kyle is an absolute amazing teacher! He goes over and beyond to teach his students the importance of the earth’s land. He also packs food bags for underprivileged children every week to be sent home on the weekends. He is the real deal of caring for our children.”
