Why have interest rates dropped so much and what does that mean for buyers? 📉🏡

Windermere Principal Economist Jeff Tucker explains: "Interest rates fell to 6.40% for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, the lowest in over a year. This drop is due to Jerome Powell's comments at the FOMC press conference and weaker economic data, like rising unemployment. Investors now expect the Fed to cut rates this fall to prevent further labor market weakness.

While a higher jobless rate isn't good news, lower borrowing costs will help ease the burden for home buyers. At today's rate (6.40%), a $800,000 loan has a monthly payment of $5,004—$590 less than the payment at the peak rate of 7.5% just three months ago."
