White Lotus Jiu Jitsu

Winter camp is about 1.5 months away! Over the next few weeks I will be bragging about how awesome the instructors are individually. They are not just great at Jiu Jitsu, but great individual people.
First up, William Dorman. Will is kind, polite, welcoming, intelligent, a gentleman and a fu***ng savage. Will just retired after 24 years in the military and 16 years as a Navy diver. A big chunk of time with special operations! (Will if I fu**ed up dates I apologize and please correct me)
In this time he has travelled all around the world learning Jiu Jitsu from everybody he had access to. Will is a 3rd degree Black belt that still goes to classes, watches other coaches, and builds upon his game. This humbleness is beautiful to see in such an incredible grappler.
I am glad to have him be apart of this camp, and to call him a friend.

I am back from the BJJ Globetrotter camp in Arizona with a lot of new tools in my tool box. I am at the gym tonight for open mat if anybody wants to come drill some new stuff!

Today we are announcing the addition of White Belt method classes

It has been 1 month since we opened White Lotus and it has been amazing! Watching people interact with the space and come together in it has been one of my all time favorite things professionally. Couple that with the ability to work on this project with the love of my life and you have a dream come true.

This dream has not come easy however. We have spent many, many hours at the dojo getting ready, planning, and listening to what we could do better. From this listening we have to, and will continue to, make pivots based on what our students want and what we believe to be best for White Lotus.

One of those pivots is to ADD 2 classes for White belts only. In the past month we have done excellent in getting people registered, however I have had to turn down at least 10 people that have limited experience or want to try it understanding our playful, precise and painless style.

Saying, unfortunately you can not try Jiu Jitsu with us has really started to eat at me. While I will try and send them to other gyms, I understand that they probably won’t start if it is not with their friends here at White Lotus. Over the last few weeks we have really thought about how we keep with our mission to be an open source learning dojo for the experienced hobbyist and have white belt classes.

The answer we created is as follows: Membership is catered to the experienced grappler but not limited to. We will have White belt method classes and experienced grappler principle based classes. We are not taking away any advanced classes just adding some white belt classes.

To be clearer, White belt method classes teach the basic methods of Jiu Jitsu. In this class the instructor teaches from the White Lotus curriculum in standard class format, participants drill with each other, and roll when appropriate. These classes are only for white belts as well.

Experienced grappling classes assume the practitioner knows the basic methods and therefore the instructor and the student work to understand the principles at work in the art of Jiu Jitsu. Students are encouraged to share what they have learned from the position, along with discussion on what doesn’t work for them and why.

White belts can attend any “White belt method class” on the schedule and any open mat on the schedule.

Experienced grapplers can come to any class on the schedule, start a class that may fit their timing, and use the facility 24/7 at their leisure.

In our humble opinion, Jiu Jitsu to us should be practiced playfully, painlessly, and precisely. Most of us are hobbyist with day jobs that don’t need to have robo-neck the day after training. White Lotus bloomed in Milwaukee Wisconsin for those hobbyist practitioners that love to train, but don’t need to “win” every roll.

We take great lengths to foster community amongst our members. White lotus doubles as a co-working space with wifi and office supplies. We offer a lounge complete with access to Netflix, prime, HBO, etc. Members also enjoy 24/7 access to all the dojo amenities. Additionally, we have weekly gatherings to watch fighting/grappling, popular shows, celebrations and game nights.
