Our Story
Our Academy began when Mr. Yun Dukan, a two-time Taekwon-Do national champion from Hwang Kee's Moo Duk Kwan School in South Korea, gained the attention of Mr. Sang Kyu Shim to aid in the hand-to-hand combat instruction of the Republic of Korea Marines in Munsan, South Korea with General Choi Hong Hi and Lt. Nam Tae Hi. Mr. Yun Duk An, in 1968, was sponsored by a Marine Veteran and persuaded by Mr. Sang Kyu Shim, who opened a studio in Detroit, Michigan, to come to the U.S. and instruct Taekwon-Do in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. After instructing in Manitowoc, Mr. Yun Duk An moved his academy to Milwaukee, WI in 1970 and has been at the same location since 1971 on Milwaukee's South-Side. Grandmaster Yun Dukan has been involved in Taekwon-Do in the USA for many years allowing for several articles on him in the Taekwondo Times, Tae Kwon Do & Korean Martial Arts and Black Belt magazines. In 1971 General Choi Hong Hi visited D.A.Yun's Academy and in 2002 Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi attended Grandmaster D.A.Yun's 60th Birthday Celebration. D.A.Yun's academy has great ties to the early pioneers and fathers of Taekwon-Do. It is a testament to integrity that has kept D.A.Yun's Black Belt Academy as the oldest continuously running Taekwondo studio in the city. Many other Martial Arts Studios trace their lineage to Grandmaster Yun Dukan whom still instructs classes with help from his assistants to this day. April 2018 marked the 50th Year Anniversary of Grandmaster Yun’s Martial Arts Instruction in the State of Wisconsin!
