In light of our nationwide IV fluid shortage,
ACOG committee Opinion 766: "Women in spontaneously progressing labor may not require routine continuous infusion of intravenous fluids. Although safe, intravenous hydration limits freedom of movement and may not be necessary. Oral hydration can be encouraged to meet hydration and caloric needs."

We invite you to download our complimentary calendar, filled with 31 heartfelt ways to remember and honor your baby throughout October. https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/awareness/

Let's talk about doulas in Wisconsin.

Cochrane Review: Did you know that continuous support provided by someone who is NONCLINICAL and NOT A MEMBER OF THE WOMAN'S OWN NETWORK and IS TRAINED AND EXPERIENCED IN PROVIDING LABOR SUPPORT is associated with:

-decreased cesarean, forceps, and vacuum deliveries
-shorter labors
-less analgesia use
-fewer low five-minute Apgar scores
-less likely to report negative feelings about their childbirth experience

Many professional organizations, including ACOG, support the use of doulas as an approach to limit unnecessary interventions in labor and birth.

How can we connect our patients with a doula? Please comment below to share contact/location/availability information for Wisconsin doulas!

This year's theme is "Midwives - Strengthening Communities." Midwives are committed to equitable, ethical, accessible, and quality healthcare for all. Midwives are striving for justice on many fronts – ending racial discrimination, ensuring access to birth choices and full spectrum reproductive healthcare, eliminating gender bias, supporting LGBTQIA+ rights, and more. In this work, midwives must all come together. The midwifery model of care fosters compassionate collaborations and personalizes care based on each person's life experiences and expertise. We are stronger together.

In the United States, 1 out of every 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage and 1 and every 160 pregnancies end in stillbirth. These numbers do not include infant death from preterm labor, diagnosis of life-limiting conditions, or SIDS.

If you do know someone who has been shaken to their core by the loss of their child, no matter what age, please take a moment and support a bereaved parent and honor their child by remembering them.

You can light a candle in the honor, say their child’s name, send a card, call your friend, do a random act of kindness, participate in a remembrance walk, visit your friend, donate to a child in need in their child’s honor, and/or send an email or FB message saying “I remember with you”.
