Funky Chemist is an organ trio that fuses funky grooves with heavy guitar and adds a strand of psychedelic rock into what would otherwise be categorized as a jazz act. The music is most influenced by Stanton Moore Trio, Soulive, Dr. Lonnie Smith and The Meters.

TOO LOUD
A little BS goes a long way.
1. That was a lovely piece you played after communion, but my hearing aids were set on high, so it was a bit jarring. I’d love to hear it again, just a tad softer.
2. That…, but I was so distracted, I got in the wrong communion line and couldn’t find my pew again, Could you play it a bit softer?
TOO SLOW
1. I love the closing hymn we sang today but I was out of breath by the end. I have COPD so if it were a little faster I could keep up better.
2. Get creative. Suggest it might sound better on piano,
I am working on a video series entitled
Fun Steps to Playing by Ear. It is still in Beta so I would appreciate your responses. If you never took piano lessons, would that title . If you did take lessons would you be interested in the advanced version. (Interested does not equal I will definietly buy

You hardly ever know the results of your actions but sometimes...• Hey Miriam! It’s nice to hear from you. You actually were responsible for starting my career when I worked at St. Clotilde in 1986 or 1987. From that relationship I was hired at St. Joachim Catholic School to be the director of the school choir. From 1989 to 1996 I continued teach and play at several schools and churches including Johnson Elementary, Academy of St. Benedict The African, St. Thaddeus and St. Dorothy. In 1996 I was hired at Trinity United Church of Christ to direct a children’s choir where I currently still work as the Director of Music. I also taught for Uniting Voices Chicago formerly known as Chicago Children’s Choir from 1996-2005. I currently compose music as well as arrange choral music

Did you are someone you know ever take piano lessons?
Did you love .... or hate ..... lessons or just take them ....
My video is Easy Steps to Playing by Ear. On a scale of 1-10, how much interest do you have in this topic? .........
Piano lessons should be fun.
I spent 20 years in Chicago on the south side. After not too long a Time I heard a gospel choir and decided I had to learn how to play this kind of music. For me it was blood sweat and tears. There were no notes not even the words. The teacher would play something which I would record, take home and listen and listen and listen. By doing this I eventually could figure out what I was supposed to play. Sometimes I wasn't real successful; one time the teacher drew a square in the air so I knew that I had screwed up royally. As it turns out every note was supposed to be off the beat and I had straightened it all out and put it on the beat- sounded fine to me. In the process I learned how to play by ear as it's called and eventually I learned how to improvise which just means taking the tune and adding my own flavor to it. I'm working on a project to make a video that would help other people to do the same thing. watch for it!
Coming soon. Easy steps to improvising
Never too young ... or old. to make your own music. One day my 6 year old piano student came to his lesson. He was supposed to have pracriced a song called "My Invention " He immediately announced that he had made his own invention. So I asked him to play it. It was quite good. 2 repeating lines with one reversed. So I asked if he would mind if I made a lower part to go with it. Then he asked me if we were going to publish it. So I said sure. I will write it down and put it on Facebook, which is what I did.
Toxic polarization is poisoning America. Here's how you can help stop it this week. It’s time we get back to talking to one another, and the National Week of Conversation is the perfect moment to bring everyone back to the table.

Here's a clue (Musicians: this is a different key) Don't give away the answer!
Several years ago, I used my booklet with 7th and 8th grade. 5 students were assigned to the piano project for 20 minutes while others worked on other projects. Then students traded places. Most tried to learn Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Some interesting side effects happened. They learned that having the letters was not enough. We had some rudimentary clues about rhythm, and since they knew the song, rhythm was not a problem. Which way was one supposed to go to get from C to G? I didn't think of it at the time but a great follow-up would be to have the notes for Twinkle and see if they could answer the question Which way to go to get from C to G.

Piano Lessons - no slapping the fingers here!
I am a church organist with many years of experience. . if you've always wanted to learn piano but could not find the time, here is your opportunity. 6 year old Charlie didn’t like the song “My Invention” in his book so he made his own version. I added a little left hand part. Then he asked if we could publish it so here it is.
I encourage creativity and think that music should be fun. Play by notes or play by chords- I’ll show you both.
