I love dressing for a theme, but I am adamantly opposed to buying new "single use" clothing as it's typically fast fashion, made unethically, and clogs up landfills. Nothing stylish about that!

I got lucky with this purple striped suit as it was part of a buy I was doing for the shop and it fit me like a glove! So I borrowed it for the evening but it will be in the vintage Halloween collection at Ultratwist soon. I paired it with green Converse and my amazing purse for a perfect nod to the film, without being too costumey - and all secondhand/ upcycled!

My kid's outfit is also all secondhand and all things from her regular wardrobe, just put together in ways she wouldn't normally wear them. She's a talented makeup artist and I really wish I'd thought to get a close up pic of her green and purple eyes because it was amazing! 💚🖤💜

Happy Aloha Friday! 🌺 I originally had some good news to share with you today (if you're on the Ultratwist email list you know what I'm talking about!) but the world feels pretty frackin' fracked this week so I'm gonna save it for a few days.

In the meantime, allow me to share one of my mental health coping strategies... If you guessed it has something to do with clothes, you're right! And there's actual science to back it up. In a nutshell it goes like this:

- When I'm feeling down, I dress up. 👗
- When I'm feeling dark, I dress bright. 🌈

Yes, I tend to do both of those things on normal days, but I do them with extra intention on down/dark days and it actually helps lift my spirits. It doesn't "fix" anything, and certainly won't change the world, but that day, that moment, it makes *me* feel a bit brighter and that's an important step in keeping my brain a safe place. I also notice when I dress up and/or dress bright, it brings smiles and joy to those around me, including perfect strangers who share their appreciation with me - and their joy becomes infectious and spreads into me, even just a little bit.

I say all this as a person who has dealt with anxiety and depression for nearly forty years, and I only discovered this connection in the past decade or so. I also say this as a person who wore only black for 20+ years. As theories of color psychology and so-called dopamine dressing have become more mainstream, I've loved seeing people lean into them and cultivate their own joy, even if it's joy that's "put on" one sleeve at a time.

All that to say... hang in there, everyone! Give someone a hug, pay someone a compliment, be joy for someone if you're able! 🥰

Of course today I went down the rabbit hole perusing all I could find on the internet and I realized just how much it shaped my worldview - and style - back in the day.

Happy Aloha Friday! 🌺 Did you see our story in as part of their Fall fashion feature? It was really cool to be included - even if they did mis-gender me throughout the whole article! (I counted seven he/him/his in there!)

I personally don't care about being mis-gendered. I know who I am. But one thing I do care about is proper representation in the business community. Women are still in the minority when it comes to business ownership and I strongly, STRONGLY believe in uplifting and supporting women (and I mean all female identifying people) owned businesses. Using my correct she/her pronouns shows other women business owners and entrepreneurial hopefuls they are not alone. Business is not the "boys club" it often seems.

Happy Aloha Friday from the ! 🌺 This morning we woke up early to take my mom to the Domes before opening the shop, and the Show Dome, currently decorated as a 50-state road trip, provided a perfect Hawaiian backdrop.

The Domes are such a special place in Milwaukee, and in my heart. When we first visited here two years ago to see if we wanted to move here, we made sure to go to the Domes. After moving here, we got married in the Tropical Dome. Since then we've become members and have visited numerous times - and every time is a magical experience! If you've never been, or if it's been awhile, carve out a little time for a visit - you'll thank me, I promise! 💖

And now for the dress... This one is a late 60s mini with a full ruffle around the wide scooped neck, made in Honolulu "by Sydney for McInerny", a clothing store that opened in Waikiki in 1957. The print is so bright it almost looks like it glows!

Open 12-4 Wed-Sat this week! I've got family in town so hours are a lil shorter this week so I can spend time with them - thanks for understanding! 💖

Happy Aloha Friday! 🌺 This is our second summer here in Milwaukee and I gotta say two things:

1) I will never tire of looking at Lake Michigan, it is so beautiful and makes me miss the Pacific Ocean less. (Which is surprising because she was hard to leave!)

2) Beer gardens and Friday fish fries are AMAZING! You don't find them like this anywhere else and lemme tell ya, it was an easy tradition to adopt!

We may have the storefront closed through State Fair, but there's plenty of ways you can get your vintage fix (and help us keep the lights on 😬):

- Shopping appointments are available most mornings, before all the parking is taken by fair-goers.
- Shop online with free local pickup and free shipping over $150.
- Buy gift cards; e-cards can be purchased online and physical cards by appointment.
- Schedule a Color Analysis; in-person in the greater Milwaukee area, or virtual anywhere else.
- Schedule other styling services: Body Type Analysis, Closet Edits, and Style Coaching.

Happy Aloha Friday! 🌺 I'm not wearing vintage Hawaiian today, but I am showing off my upcycled Hawaiian shirt, which I've paired with true 1950s vintage Jantzen shorts! This Hawaiian style shirt was from a promo they did last summer and it was way too big so I made several alterations to transform it into something I'll actually wear (on game days at least). Here's what I did:

- permanently cuffed the sleeves
- took the side seams in
- shortened and re-hemmed the bottom
- left two longer strips in front to tie at the waist

The whole project took me about an hour and it turned out great! If you've got things gathering dust in your closet because they don't fit right, don't be afraid of minor (or major!) alterations so you can wear them. After all, clothes are meant to be worn!

PS: Because people always ask, no I don't do sewing/ alterations for others, only for my own clothes. However, I'm happy to recommend a few local tailors if needed.
