Our crews are here and ready to check in on-site with the sticker on their hard hats. They will be testing design and restoration techniques over the next couple months. restoreourbasilica.org

Today crews are working to install scaffolding in the church in preparation for future interior restoration of The Basilica. Design and restoration techniques will be tested on the plaster ceiling, stone walls, stained glass windows and lighting.

This effort is expected to take about three months and will create a sample for planning stages of interior space restoration in the coming years.

Repairing and maintaining the historic bronze doors is a continual effort. It is especially critical to keep the accessible doors in proper condition to welcome all of our parishioners and visitors.

This week Kelly Caldwell, the Director of Conservation and a Senior Conservator at EverGreene Architectural Arts is leading The Basilica’s initial interior assessment with her team.

The Basilica bell tower repairs are moving forward. Each of the small roofs within the towers are leaking, and there are issues with a drain that has failed and masonry. Repairs will fix leaking roofs and prevent moisture from getting into the church.

If you’ve visited The Basilica of Saint Mary recently, you may have noticed white netting - it’s there to catch damaged plaster falling from the ceiling. We are working to raise funds for an assessment to identify how to repair and restore the decorative plaster and stained-glass.
