I would add fatherhood and parenthood to this poignant quote. The great letting go! As long as you are a parent you will be learning how and when to let go. Sometimes you’ll celebrate, sometimes you’ll mourn. It’s all ok.
Happy parents, grateful midwives. 💛
This sweet chunk of boy came to visit today and completely stole our hearts. 💙💜 We just love the ‘happysad’ final postpartum visit but it’s usually a pretty sad good bye to these darling babies.
The beautiful trinity of birth, handwork and textiles. Thank you for such raw and honest beauty.
Ok, I’ll admit you have to use your imagination a ‘little’ bit BUT is this tree not crowning this magnificent boulder? This fantastic scene is located in a city park and was sent us by a former client who is just as nutty about birth as her midwives. Rocks and trees and the birds and the bees. 🌳🪨 Birth everywhere!
One great joy (of so many) is watching a cute Trillium toddler delight and wonder during a prenatal visit. This sweet boy is going to be a big brother in the new year and we can hardly wait!
If I were a birth photography judge I’d give this photo an award. Wow! 📷

We stand with MN nurses! This three day nurse strike is a little unnerving, especially if you are facing a labor or a planned induction in the immediate days. Rest assured you will be taken care of by travel nurses but you may need to advocate for your needs and birth preferences in a way you weren’t expecting to. Head over to for some addition tips if this strike is affecting your birthing time.
Dreamy, spacy, otherworldly… the recent fantastical images from the new Webb telescope brought this image from a recent birth to mind. Have you ever felt like birth brought you to the edge? IYKYN 🌗🌙☄️✨🪐☄️🌗🌙✨☄️ .
The sweetest baby Amelia arrived and we just love her.💓Welcome baby. .
Ahhhh, the family centered home visit! It’s one of our favorites. This particular visit stated on the front lawn amidst the veggie and herb garden, doula Sam pulled up on her bike and we then continued inside with a brief home tour, supply check and finished with some belly/baby ❤️ This job has some serious perks.
Aiden packed on so many pounds he needed to be upgraded to the big boy scale! These final postpartum visits are ‘happysad’ it’s my word for that confusing feeling of being happy for a triumphant VBAC mother, a thriving baby and a smooth forth trimester BUT sad we won’t see this lovely nugget and his beautiful family…until the next baby😉
Hi baby, ❣️ You are perfect, you are loved, you are light.
Little Lucy had fun at a prenatal visit recently. She also had some hilarious toddler feelings about this new baby joining her family soon. Home birth prenatal care is family focused. Kids welcome!
Laboring in the early morning light Tesla drapes her legs over the end of the bed in a walchers position. This helps facilitate a wider pelvic inlet. The intensity of this position was made softer and sweeter by doula/photographer Kadi Vail. But…sometimes the midwife picks up the camera to catch these exquisitely tender moments❣️
Our newest, sweetest most darling Spring baby! Welcome Junia, we love you ❣️Love your midwives, Emme & Grace
Midwife means ‘with women’ and although a majority of our work IS caring for and loving up those birthing people we are quite fond of all the tiny humans. We simply LOVE the intense conversations we get to have. .
We’ve posted this before, but on this day, “International Day of the Midwife” there is just no better time to repost such a poignant and fitting poem. In a world full of such strife and sadness we are just so god damn grateful for the very sacred work midwifery brings to our lives 💓 Thank you to the midwives who have taught and mentored us and thank you to all the families who have trusted us to be your midwives.
Sometimes postpartum visits are the best kind of crazy. We like it this way. Can you spot 6 week old Shepherd? .
Truth!
Happy May Day 🌷 Every year for the past 6 May Days I am greeted with an adorable May Day bouquet quietly and stealth fully left on my door step and honesty it’s become my favorite part of the Spring awakening 🌿
Berty Lou, it’s never good bye, just farewell for now. 🧡These final postpartum visits sure are heartbreakers.
IYKYN! The very unglamorous part of midwifery care! Ha ha, part of home birth clean up involves taking down the water birth tub There is really no slick way to get the air out of the inner compartments than to climb in and sit on them. Yep! Super fun, super glamorous.
Midwife Grace and Artemis engaged in deep conversation about his birth. At a final postpartum visit I was witness to the sweetest most tender moment between these two. It kinda took my breath away. Truly. As midwives we take the baby’s experience of their birth VERY seriously. Validating, explaining, comforting and loving these tiny humans in verbal and non verbal ways. It’s powerful stuff.
“We are so grateful for your intentional care and support throughout our pregnancy, labor birth and postpartum! We really could not have done it without you both. You went above and beyond in so many big and small ways to ensure that we had the birth at home we hope for. We can’t thank you enough for your love and help through this adventure. We look forward to telling our son and future little ones about their amazing Midwives. This was not an easy year for us in many ways but you have been and are a great blessing. We look forward to seeing you soon for our next pregnancy. “
A Happy Trillium Family
Grateful. Just feeling really grateful today for cute babies, kind cards and community connection. p.s. this is Ramona, she is pretty cute.
Little Sully wasn’t too happy with the placenta photo shoot so this is the only photo I took. We swiftly cut his cord and back he went skin to skin with his mama. The crowning glory of this particular birth was the declaration Sully’s mother made seconds after her rockstar birth, “oh my gosh, I did so amazing!”
Yes you did my dear, yes you did! .
