Learn about global health in Thailand with the Pre-Health Student Resource Center this winter break! In AHS 3002: Global Health in Thailand, you will learn about Thai healthcare for humans and animals and the role of elephants in the Thai culture.
Students in AHS 3002 travel abroad to Chiang Mai, Thailand during winter break. Upon returning, AHS 3002 is an in-person 3-credit course students take during the first half of spring semester.

Jeffry Ratliff-Crain, PhD is a psychology professor in the Interdisciplinary Center for Learning Innovation (CLI) at the U of M Rochester.
Kathleen Culhane-Pera, MD, MA is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the U of M Twin Cities. She is a family physician and medical anthropologist who worked for over 30 years with multiethnic communities in St. Paul, MN.

This is an exciting week of learning for the PHSRC, with staff attending two different national conferences! 💡Right now three of our staff are attending the 2024 NASPA Conferences on Student Success in Higher Education in Anaheim, CA. There are three educational tracks focusing on first-generation student success, structural barriers to student success, and using assessment, planning, and data analytics in student success. We’ve been learning a lot and can’t wait to take the knowledge back to our work with pre-health students and with our Health Profession Pathways program!

It was wonderful having the University of Minnesota Board of Regents, along with Executive Vice President and Provost Croson, and Dr. Brian Sick, visit the Pre-Health Student Resource Center today while they were touring around the Health Sciences! We had the opportunity to talk about the way we work we with pre-health students across the entire Twin Cities campus and out into the U of M system - supporting students in exploring and deepening their interest in a health career, helping them connect with experiences on and off campus that build a well-rounded application portfolio, and then help navigate the application process to health degree programs. We shared how amazing students are 👏⭐️ We also told them about our Health Profession Pathways program, which supports students from diverse backgrounds on their road to become future leaders in health care. Some Pathways students were able to join us today to share their perspective! Thanks to our visitors and our student guests!
Happy spring break Gophers! Students in our AHS 3004: Health in Ecuador - Humans, Animals, and Ecosystems class are enjoying their time abroad right now. They spent the first few days in Quito, Ecuador, visiting a hospital, touring the historical city center, and learning with our on the ground hosts at CIMAS. This photo shows the group in front of gorgeous view from the CIMAS office! Today they headed north to visit , an indigenous community and cultural house near the city of Ibarra where they will participate in a Pambamesa, a traditional meal eaten together while sitting on the ground.
