First conversation with Lorimer Moseley this morning before the Pain Science in Practice seminar centered around the practice in the US of compensation for medical professionals to deliver treatments instead of outcomes. In Australia and the UK they get paid better when people recover from pain, not for doing surgeries and procedures. But he thinks there’s hope because even the US can’t keep paying for this way of delivering pain care forever.

September is Pain Awareness Month. Chronic pain is the single greatest cause of disability, and pain is the most common reason for seeking healthcare, including conventional medical care and complementary medicine. Modern research gives us insight into ways to reduce pain and pain-related disability. PainSavvy Walk & Talk was started with the goal of helping people acquire the knowledge and skills to overcome and prevent chronic pain.
The next PainSavvy Walk and Talk will be Sunday, Sept. 8 at 11am MT.
Join us in downtown Missoula to learn about chronic pain and to walk together. Everyone is free to walk as much or as little as they want. Walking is a great type of movement that can help prevent and reduce pain, but movement can actually be threatening (and consequently, painful!) without an understanding of pain, why walking helps and how to do the right amount.
When: Sunday, Sept. 8 at 11:00 am MT
Where: DiscoverEase in Movement, 210 N. Higgins Ave., Suite 207, Missoula
Online: bit.ly/PainSavvyOnline
We'll be meeting at the DiscoverEase in Movement office on 9/8 due to construction at our host, the Missoula YMCA.
Starting Sunday, Sept. 22, future PainSavvy Walk & Talk meetings will be held at the Missoula Public Library downtown as part of the library's health literacy program.
