General supervision of PTAs for outpatient practices

Montana physical therapists can now officially perform Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exams in our state, but only after you have met certain Federal requirements.
Thanks to the advocacy efforts of the APTA MT and the Occupational Health Special Interest Group (OHSIG) of the AOPTA, DOT medical certification of commercial truck/bus drivers is now recognized within our scope of practice. This is a huge step forward, empowering us to expand our services and make a real impact on public safety.

Montana's physical therapy licensure boards confirmed through formal letters that performing Department of Transportation evaluations falls within the scope of practice for physical therapists, pending certification from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
