Mark your calendars! Effective April 1, 2024, there will be changes to the Walton County Solid Waste fees following the recent decision by the Walton County Board of Commissioners.
After careful consideration, the Board has voted to raise the scale rates at the Walton County Recycling Center from $65 to $70 per ton. Additionally, a $5 minimum disposal fee will be implemented.
The proposed increases stem from recent adjustments in the Waste Disposal Agreement with the City of Monroe.
Keep Walton Beautiful Recycling Center is vital in our waste management efforts. Did you know that in 2023, they collected over 3,543 tons of refuse? In 2024, they're averaging over 261 tons per month, with over 2,288 cars using the facility!
But here's the good news! The increase in revenue generated from these adjustments will help offset any costs incurred by Walton County Public Works for solid waste management. It's a step towards ensuring sustainability and efficiency in our operations.
To encourage more sustainable waste disposal practices, citizens are encouraged to utilize the Pay as You Throw Program or the Green Bag Program. Green bags, priced at $2.50 each, provide a convenient alternative for household garbage. They can be purchased at the Walton County Recycling Center or local stores and disposed of at the Walton County Convenience Centers or Keep Walton Beautiful Recycling Center.
Let's work together to make Walton County cleaner and greener! Your cooperation and support are invaluable in maintaining our community's beauty and sustainability.
