We had a great time working with Sword Experience in Pittsburgh. It was an awesome class with alot of super cool people. If you want to meet the Highlander and swing a sword look out for the event they come every year around this time.

Class Schedule:

Introduction to longsword:
Wednesday from 6 pm to 7:30 pm and Saturday from 2 pm to 3:30 pm.

Intermediate/Advanced class:
Thursday from 6 pm to 8:30 pm
Saturday from 4 pm to 6 pm

On November 2nd, 2024 Waterfront Historical Fencing, Waterfront MMA Academy, and in coordination with Broken Plow Martial Arts, bring you one again the Tournament of Lost Art. Starting at 11am and running until 6pm we will have a longsword tournament, armored combat in a cage, and exhibition matches for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Of course to watch is free, but if you plan on participating please sign up with the link! If you do before the beginning of October you can even get our early bird special!

Medieval Plate Armor (1100-1560)
Medieval plate armor, used from the 12th to the 16th centuries, evolved significantly to offer enhanced protection compared to earlier forms. Initially, in the early 12th century, it was used as supplementary armor over chainmail, primarily focusing on vulnerable areas like the chest and back. By the 13th century, plate armor began to cover more of the body with individual plates, such as the cuirass, and was worn alongside mail. The high medieval period saw the advent of full plate armor in the 14th century, with suits incorporating articulated plates that allowed greater mobility and protection. Notable designs from this era include the Gothic armor, known for its elaborate and decorative style. By the late 15th and early 16th centuries, the Maximilian style emerged, featuring pronounced fluting and ornate details that combined both aesthetic appeal and functionality. However, as fi****ms became more prevalent, the practical use of plate armor declined by the mid-16th century, though it continued to be worn in ceremonial contexts. #
