CCAC Boyce Student Life
"For the most part, if it's an activity at CCAC Boyce, and it's outside the classrooms, it's Student Life." Linda Neubauer

Our role is to ensure that students have a variety of opportunities to grow, learn and acquire valuable skills and proficiencies outside of the classroom. The countdown is over! ✔️ You've made it to the end of the semester, congratulations! It wasn't easy and there were a lot of obstacles along the way. We're proud of you!
Remember to register for the spring semester if you haven't already!
This may seem like the best time of the year to sit down with your favorite tea and a long book, and up until last year the tea-drinkers of the world would agree with you! But, last year the UN passed a resolution officially moving the observance of International Tea Day from December 15th to May 21st – with the goal of raising awareness about sustainable production methods and tea’s important role in disrupting cycles of poverty.
Why not celebrate both dates? The more tea, the better.
The semester is wrapping up, and we wanted to give a shout-out to the students who won our Election 2020 Virtual Scavenger Hunt drawing. Congratulations to all!

On Monday our VP of Fellowship, Megan Partin, safely delivered the cards along with 2 big bags of goodies to the residents! Covid-19 couldn’t stop this group from spreading holiday cheer!

It’s Brownie Day! Everyone deserves a treat and since we’re all at home; give baking a shot with this super easy brownie recipe!
1. Preheat your oven to 350*F and grease a 9 x 13 pan with either nonstick spray or butter.
2. In one bowl, pour in 2 cups of white sugar, ½ cup of cocoa powder, 1 ½ cups of flour (white, Pillsbury GF, or oat), ½ teaspoon of baking powder, some salt, and toppings of your choice.
3. Whisk the dry ingredients together.
4. Grab a bigger bowl and place 1 cup (or 2 sticks) of melted butter, 4 whole eggs, and, 1 teaspoon of your choice of extract. Whisk together.
5. Place the dry ingredients into the wet and mix until fully mixed and smooth.
6. Place in the oven for a minimum of 20 minutes, test with a toothpick; if it has brownie mix on it, put them back in the oven for about 8 minutes.
7. Enjoy!

Robert Ebert was right; CCAC’s campuses saw their first snowfall last week and it was beautiful! Stay warm and stay safe!

Try something new and challenge yourself to journal for 10 minutes per day. Journaling can boost your mood, relieve stress, improve your writing skills, inspire creativity, and improve your working memory.
Finals are coming and we’re here to help you succeed! Try the following steps to ease your stress and help your memory!
• Your brain is the only organ that runs on a lot of glucose to help function, glucose is a sugar only found in carbohydrates. Have a carb filled breakfast! It’ll fill you up and will help with your thinking!
• Stretch before you sleep! Do yoga or light stretches to release stress and endorphins. Endorphins are a chemical released when your muscles are stretched to decrease pain and give you a “feel good” or positive feeling which will ease your mind and release tension to help you get a better night’s sleep!
• Study in increments. If you study for an hour, you’ll notice your brain starts to feel tired; it’s suggested that you study for no more than 45 minutes and take a 15-20 minute break in between, when you come back from your break you should look over what you already studied before moving onto additional work. This will keep your mind sharp!
• Chew gum when studying and chew the same type of gum at the test! Studies have shown that oddly enough, chewing gum when studying can be a destresser but also helps your focus, you’ll stay concentrated for longer. Chewing gum again at the test will help your brain’s memory and you may not be as stressed about being timed!
• Skip the question. If you don’t know an answer, you’re timed, and feel stressed - skip it! It’s better to get the questions you know first then to go back when you have time to the questions you’re unsure of. Remember - a wrong question versus no question is worth the same point. If you get the questions that you already know done, you’ve already increased your chances of a better grade, save the stress towards the end!
We’re one week into our 12 Days of Giving Campus Cupboard donation drive. Remember to take a look at the list of requests our Cupboards put out, and plug an item or two into your shopping list. For details on how to donate or pick up items, contact us.
Yesterday’s Students Talk Back forum, hosted by the CCAC SGAs (with assistance from PTK students at South), featured a set of speakers giving tips for how to navigate CCAC’s virtual resources and a short Student Hacks presentation. Fantastic job to our student coordinators, and Student Hacks presenter Minnie Jones, who is shown reminding us of the key components of Zoom etiquette.
Look out for the full presentation next week!

It’s National Make A Gift Day! It doesn’t have to be the holidays to give a gift to show someone special how much they mean to you! Draw a photo, paint, take pictures and make a scrapbook, make a birdhouse, anything goes and it never has to be costly! You can even steal the idea in the image above of a mason jar with hot chocolate mix inside. With COVID, a mason jar full of dry ingredients along with a recipe is the perfect gift to set on someone’s doorstep, make it a cookie recipe, a cake recipe, hot chocolate, rules don’t apply!
Someone wise once said: You’ll never know unless you ask. It may have been a challenging semester, but it might not be too late to turn it around. Talk to your professors. They may be more willing to help than you think 😉
