In the religious scriptures of Hinduism and Buddhism, the festive event of Guru Purnima is not only considered necessary but also sacred. As per these age-old cultures, a Guru, a teacher, is next to God and, therefore, an integral part of the society and its building process.
The following shloka from the ancient Vedic Scriptures elucidates the supreme place a teacher or Guru is given –
Gururbrahmā Gururviṣhṇu Gururdēvōh Mahēśhvaraḥ…I
Guru Sākṣhāta Paraṁ Brahmah Tasmai Shrī Guravē Namaḥ…II
Meaning: Oh, teacher, you are akin to the Gods. You are Lord Vishnu, and you are Lord Shiva – the God of the Gods. Oh, teacher, you are the supreme being, and you are Lord Brahma for me. Thus, oh revered teacher, I bow in front of you.
The Full Moon day in Shukla Paksha during the Lunar month Ashad is celebrated as Guru Purnima. Guru – Gu means darkness and ignorance, and Ru implies elimination or removal. So, the Guru is the one who removes the darkness of ignorance from our lives, makes us knowledgeable, and brings positivity to our lives and minds.
In Hindu mythology, Jyeshtha Purnima is associated with different legends and rituals. One popular belief is that on this day, Lord Vishnu took the form of Lord Jagannath and appeared on Earth. This day is also considered auspicious for Lord Shiva and Goddess Lakshmi.
In certain regions, Jyeshtha Purnima is celebrated as Vat Purnima or Vat Savitri Vrat. Married Hindu women observe a fast and tie threads around banyan trees, praying for the well-being and longevity of their husbands. They perform rituals and listen to the story of Savitri and Satyavan, an ancient tale of devotion and determination.
Additionally, Jyeshtha Purnima is associated with the harvest season. Farmers express gratitude for a good harvest and pray for favorable weather and abundance in the coming year. They pray for their agricultural tools and seek blessings for a prosperous future.
Vaishakha Purnima is celebrated with a lot of dedication and devotion by the Hindu community across the country. People worship the Moon God and Lord Vishnu during this time of the year. Several other observances take place on the same day, which makes the day extremely auspicious. Besides worshipping the Moon God and Lord Vishnu, people also observe Satyanarayan Vrat and Buddha Purnima on this day. As we gear up to celebrate the auspicious day, here are a few things we should remember.
The temple is ready for the milestone 40th Sthapana day celebration.
Come and take blessing from Ganpati ji.
Hindus celebrate Hanuman Jayanti, a festival honouring the birth of Lord Hanuman. Revered for his unwavering devotion to Lord Rama, Hanuman, the monkey god, embodies strength and selflessness. Devotees mark this occasion with prayers, fasting, and reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, seeking inner peace, prosperity, and strength from Lord Hanuman. Hanuman Jayanti typically falls in the spring months of March or April.
Devotees use Hanuman Jayanti as a powerful opportunity to learn from Lord Hanuman's virtues and seek his blessings.
Importance of Chaitra Purnima
The name of Chaiti Punam is also known as Chaitra Purnima. On the same day, Shri Krishna celebrated Raas Utsava in Braj city, known as Raas Leela or Maharaas. Thousands of Gopis participated in this festival, and Lord Shri Krishna danced the whole night with each one of them using his divine power (Yogmaya).
Hanuman Jayanti
It is believed that Lord Hanuman, also called Ram Bhakt Hanuman, was born on the Purnima of Chaitra month. So, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on this day, especially in North India and Central India. However, there are some disagreements related to this festival. In some places, it is celebrated on Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, whereas in others, it is celebrated on Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. However, both dates (Tithis) are mentioned in religious scriptures. But, there is a difference in how both are celebrated, so the first is called Hanuman Jayanti, and the second is called Vijay Abhinandan Mahotsava.

The full moon day that falls in the month of Maghi (January or February in the English calendar) is known as Maghi Purnima, according to the Hindu Panchang. Maghi Purnima has special significance from a religious and spiritual point of view according to Hindu scriptures. Bathing, charity, and chanting on this auspicious day of Purnima are said to be very virtuous and fruitful. Magh bath is also essential on this day. The unique bath, which takes place in the month of Magha, usually starts from the full moon of the Posh month and continues till Maghi Purnima. For the Triveni Sangam bath, Maghi Purnima is the last day after performing Kalpavas in the pilgrimage place of Teerthraj Prayag. According to the beliefs of Sanatan Dharma, the grace of Lord Madhav, that is Shri Krishna, showers on the people who take baths during the month of Magha. Also, they will be blessed with happiness, prosperity, children, and salvation. Bathing, charity, and chanting on this date are said to
Pausha Purnima has a great religious significance in the Hindu religion. According to the Hindu Scriptures, Pausha Purnima is considered an auspicious day when the divine rays of the Moon fall on earth. On this auspicious day, devotees observe fast and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu. People visit various holy places such as Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Prayagraj to take a holy bath in the sacred river on this day.
Lord Surya also worshipped on this Pausha Purnima day, and people offered Arghya to Lord Surya. It is believed that by offering prayers to Lord Surya, one can get power and energy. This day is considered unique to worship Lord Surya and Lord Moon on the same day. Lord Moon and Lord Surya fulfill all the wishes of the devotees who worship them with utmost devotion and dedication.

Let's celebrate Sharad Purnima Garba/Raas together, today, Saturday, October 28 at Hindu jain temple.
Sharad Purnima is one of the most important festivals in Hinduism. This festival takes place in Ashwin (September/October). Sharad Poornima’s other names are Kumara Purnima, Kojagiri Purnima, Navanna Purnima, Ashwin Purnima, or Kaumudi Purnima. The full moon’s brightness brings special joy and pleasure to that day. The word “Sharad” in Sharad Poornima refers to the “Sharad Ritu” (season) of the year. In several Indian states, Sharad Purnima is also celebrated as a harvest festival.
On Sharad Poornima, many devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Shiva. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi is said to go from place to place, asking Kojagiri, “Who is awake?” and blessing those who are found awake. As a result, people do not sleep that night but spend the entire day with immense dedication, fasting, singing religious songs, and praying for prosperity. This year Sharad Purnima falls on 27th October 2023.
Please join us for pooja.
