It's beginning to look a lot like.......ORNAMENT TIME!
This grand theatre opened on January 25, 1930, as The Paramount Theatre. It was a Movie Palace, designed for the talkies and Vaudeville shows. During the 1940’s, the Paramount Theatre was operated by Paramount Pictures. During the 50’s and 60’s patrons would form lines that wrapped around the corner to see movies in this magnificent theatre. There were also many weddings held on the stage of The Paramount! The ornament depicts the 1964 World Premiere of Your Cheatin Heart – the story of the late Hank Williams featuring George Hamilton. Hank Williams Jr. sang his father’s hits for the soundtrack. In 1976, after the last feature Gone With the Wind, the majestic Paramount Theatre closed its doors. The theatre was purchased by Troy University, restored and reopened in 1983 as The Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. The Davis Theatre is a downtown landmark and is one of only a handful of such theatre spaces still standing across the South. For long-time Montgomerians, it will always be remembered as The Paramount. It’s grandeur remains for patrons to appreciate today. There is a feeling of intimacy long since sacrificed in modern theatre design.
Ornaments are $20 each and may be purchased from Rosemont Gardens, The Velvet Pumpkin and many Adams Drugs locations (Mitchell Dr., Adams Ave., McGehee Road, Perry Hill Road, Vaughn Road, Taylor Road, Prattville, Millbrook and Wetumpka) and Easterseals on Normandie Dr. and East Shirley Lane.
