A must read for anyone who loves someone battling with anorexia!
It is hard to put into words all the emotions and thoughts that I experienced as I read Jack and Linda Mazur's book. This is a must read for family members and friends and therapists who work with people battling with anorexia. Jack and Linda wrote a beautifully authentic book about the reality of living with someone who has severe anorexia. I wanted to grab a hold of both of them and just hug them as a I read their story. I feel like I knew Emilee and I have a better understanding of what it is like to be taken slowly by such a misunderstood and dangerous illness. I cannot imagine how Jack and Linda wrote this book. It is a gift that they have put into this world. Jack and Linda exemplify the meaning of real love for a child. I have not read a book like this in my 28 years of counseling clients who are on a healing journey from eating disorders and trauma. I would give the book 10 stars if Amazon gave me that option. Shari Botwin, LCSW and author of "Stolen Childhoods: Thriving After Abuse," and "Thriving After Trauma: Stories of Living and Healing."

Disheartening to see how Blake Lively characterized victims while doing PR for her film. I loved the movie and felt so uplifted by the ending and how we can break the cycle of
Lively missed the mark when she told the public that survivors can choose to not be defined by what others have done to us.
Quite the opposite as one of the hardest pieces of recovery is integrating what was done to us. If we separate from the experience we continue to dissociate and disconnect from the trauma. That actually puts us at higher risk of staying in the role of “victim,” and allowing the cycle of abuse to continue. Love the comment by this trauma therapist!
It takes fight and courage to go to . My therapist helped me save my own life. If I didn’t ask for help I would not be 53 years old and alive today! We love you Simone Biles

Shari Botwin Author Of Stolen Childhoods: Thriving After Abuse
Why am I passionate about this?
I am a childhood abuse survivor, author, and therapist, and I am always looking for books to help me better understand the crazy healing process. I have done over two decades of therapy and have been working with clients for over twenty-eight years. In addition, I serve as an expert witness on behalf of plaintiffs who have experienced different types of trauma. Educating myself and getting the perspective from other clinicians and experts has helped me be a better therapist and expedited my therapy process!
I am so grateful to all the who take the time to rate and review my new book, “Stolen Childhoods: Thriving After Abuse.” Publishing a has many ups and downs, and the more we support , the more the word gets out! 🙏

I am thrilled to share my latest publication in the Philadelphia Inquirer, about Simone Biles
"In Biles’ newly released documentary, Simone Biles Rising, she opened up about how “I kinda felt like I was in jail with my own brain and body.”
Biles echoed the voice of the millions of people who have suffered through an adverse childhood experience when she spoke about how the s*xual abuse got “shoved” down into her body, mind and heart. Biles explained to viewers that as long as we keep the secrets to ourselves, we will spend our lives feeling like we are at war with ourselves.”

Letters to the Editor | July 31, 2024 Inquirer readers on JD Vance, Gov. Josh Shapiro, and speed cameras in Philly.
An important memory popped up and I wanted to share. I decided to call my and ask for all the and journal entries I shared with her over the course of 20 plus years in . I started writing “Stolen Childhoods: Thriving After Abuse,” one year after I read through all my writing. So timely too as I reflected on Simone Biles and her road to rising back after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Thank you at Law and Crime for having me give commentary on this important case of abuse done by a to a teenage boy.
"A since-fired substitute teacher in Wellston, Oklahoma, who happens to be the wife of the local police chief and the daughter of the local mayor, faces an upcoming trial in October for alleged s*x offenses against a 15-year-old male student. Emma Delaney Hancock was hit with another legal threat — a civil lawsuit the boy’s father filed. Hancock is now firing back at the alleged victim’s dad, demanding that he pay her defense legal fees in the lawsuit. Law&Crime’s Elizabeth Millner breaks down the twisted case."

Oh my gosh! How many of you have been shamed, disbelieved or banished by your mother or close family member when you bravely spoke up about being abused by another family member? Everyone needs to read this important essay written by a warrior survivor.
Daughter of writer Alice Munro reveals family secret of s*xual abuse In an essay published Sunday, Andrea Robin Skinner writes that her stepfather s*xually abused her, and that Munro stayed with him after learning about it

I LOVE going on this . Join me and The Trauma Therapist Project for our fourth conversation, since we connected four years ago. We talked about what it is like to go with our stories.
One of the biggest challenges of being a s*xual abuse , is managing all the shame, despair and fear that comes with knowing, understanding and speaking. Thank you Guy Macpherson for your platform and giving so many of us a place to talk about difficult topics!
