Happy Easter,

I am writing to area individuals, groups, and parishes asking them to get the word out about the need to call Sen. Rob Kupec’s office THIS WEEK about the “2023 Health Omnibus Bill.” A version of the bill was passed by the House and another by the Senate with the House bill containing many provisions that repeals a number of bills that are meant to provide at least some “minimal” controls over abortion in the state. Set to be repealed are such things as 1. Ending abortion reporting requirements (allowing people to track the numbers of abortions, the reasons for them, and where they occur), 2. the law that only allows physicians to carry out an abortion, 3. rules governing the disposal of fetal remains among many other provisions (see below for the entire list). Incredibly, the House bill also repeals the $3.5 million/year that are going to organizations around the state that assist women in need who wish to have their baby. These organizations provide support to pregnant mothers and to their babies once born. These organizations provide free services that cannot be found elsewhere.

Here is where you can be helpful. Our local senator, Rob Kupec, is part of the conference committee that will work out a compromise between the Senate and House versions of the bill. PLEASE CALL SENATOR KUPEC’S OFFICE THIS WEEK (651-296-3205)

Please let me know if you have any questions. AND PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ANYONE THAT YOU BELIEVE WOULD BE WILLING TO MAKE A CALL.

God Bless

Dcn. Mark Krejci

A silver rose on a nine-month pilgrimage will be the centerpiece of a special prayer service at St. Francis de Sales Church on Tuesday, May 2, at 7:30 pm.
Program is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and to express both international unity and dedication to the sanctity of human life.

The journey of the silver rose begins each year in March and ends on Dec. 12, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. During that time, Silver Roses travel from town to town along eight routes throughout North America. Several of those routes begin in Canada and end in Mexico.

The Silver Rose Program began in 1960, when the first rose – a real, live one – was blessed by a bishop in Ontario. The rose then traveled to New York and then to Texas where it was taken across the border into Mexico. The rose ended its pilgrimage at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey on Dec. 12, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. To better ensure future annual trips, a silver rose was ultimately made. Today, due to the popularity of the program throughout the North American continent, eight silver roses travel unique routes.

In 2001, when Carl Anderson, Past Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, expanded the Silver Rose Program, he com- mented: “Through [the Silver Rose Program] we honor not only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the [Knights of Columbus], but we also reaffirm the Order’s dedication to the sanctity of human life. It is to the Blessed Mother that we turn in prayer as we work to end the Culture of Death that grips our society. As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses.”

All parishioners are encouraged to pray with the Knights for a civilization of love and culture of life in our own country and throughout the world.

Our parking lot is disintegrating more each year. We have received four proposals for a new one, and the lowest is $90,185.00. St. Francis de Sales has approximately half of the money needed to complete this project. Would you consider a donation to reduce the amount of financing we will need? The project cannot wait another year. Leave the donation in an envelope marked “parking lot” and bring it to the office or put it in the collection plate. Thank you in advance for your help.

Father Raul has asked that the following letter from the Diocese of Crookston be published.

Fathers,

A national abortion advocacy group has called on supporters to protest at Catholic Masses around the country this weekend. While the Diocese of Crookston has no information that disruptions are planned locally, we wanted to make you aware of this trending topic on social media.

You may want to consider the following:
• Having extra parish leadership and staff present at Masses to watch for unusual behavior or disruptive activities.
• If protestors disrupt the Mass, prepare hospitality/usher staff to peacefully and respectfully es**rt protestors out of the church.
• Announce that the Mass is not the proper forum for protesting and encourage demonstrators to move outside the church to public property to express their views.
• Ask the faithful to pray quietly.
• Lead the faithful in prayer after demonstrators exit to calm parishioners.
• In the event a demonstration takes place, it may be upsetting to some in attendance. Please acknowledge that parish staff will be available following Mass to speak with them (if that’s possible). Otherwise, remind the faithful that they are welcome to call the parish office to make an appointment with the pastor. If you believe that a situation may become or is becoming unsafe, please contact your local law enforcement agency for advice and assistance.

In addition, Catholic Mutual Group has supplied us with the following comments:
In light of the potential changes from the U.S. Supreme Court on abortion, law enforcement agencies across the U.S. are issuing alerts for violence and civil unrest starting with this weekend, with the target of Mother’s Day. Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that you inform your Pastors of this matter. They should remain vigilant and be prepared should protestors decide to show up in front of one of your churches.
1. Try not to engage with the protestors.
2. Work with local law enforcement and follow their recommendations. They can also help manage the event. Police are the only ones with legal authority to deal with these protestors. They can assist by keeping protestors off of church property and making sure the protest remains peaceful.
3. If media shows up, make no comment or consider designating one person from the church to be authorized to talk with the media.
Please make your staff and volunteers aware of this potential fluid situation involving protesting at your church.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
