MHC Lures

I've been hinting that I would be making some changes in 2024. Well... Over the next few weeks, I will be reducing the regularly stocked colors for all of my lures. Colors will now be uniform (with slight variations) for all of my lures. Twitch baits, soft spots and topwaters will all be offered in 5 standard colors to include:
Gold Mullet
Hot Olive (soft spots available later this week)
Mardi Gras
Bone
Electric Chicken
There are a few reasons behind this change. First, I think the reduction in colors will make it easier to manage the workload, keep retailers stocked up and add more retailers to the current list. It is just me, after all. And having 30+ SKUs to keep up with can be a bit challenging at times. Second, I plan to start doing smaller batches (15 to 20 pieces) of different colors based on current trends or for whenever I feel like making something new. These small batch colors will only be available on my website and will likely be a one and done type of thing. Lastly, if you're bummed that one of your go to colors is being cut, don't worry! I will soon be accepting custom orders. Minimum quantity of 15 pieces per color and lure.
Any remaining stock of the other colors will be available at a discount at the Mid-Atlantic Hunting and Fishing Expo () in Greenville, NC March 23-34 2024. So be sure to come check it out!
That's pretty much all for now. A few other things should be coming down the pipeline later this year but I'm still working out some of the details. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the Soft Spot Hot Olive drop coming later this week! Thanks for all the continued support!

Just one of the many steps to get these out the door and in your hands. It's not an exciting step of the process. But it's a necessary part nonetheless. Certainly, it's a step of the process that could easily be outsourced. There are other little steps just like this one that could be. And while I'm not 100% sure where this will all end up in the future, one thing I do know is that keeping as much of it as possible made here is important to me.

Getting this batch wrapped up and ready to go out the door tomorrow morning and headed for Eastside Bait and Tackle in Washington, NC. Had a bit of a delay getting them restocked due to a slight administrative hiccup, but it's all good now! Keep an eye out for these to hit their shelves later this week.

First time since September 12th that I had a chance to get after some speckled trout. Jumped around a bunch and eventually found a few. Mostly 14inchers but also some nicer fish like this healthy 18 incher that fell for the Hot Olive MHC SUSPENDING TWITCH BAIT. Looking forward to the next trip but time to get back in the shop for now!

Small restock of SOFT SPOT and SOFT SPOT MINI just hit the website! I know I've been slacking on keeping the website stocked up 🙈. Finally starting to get caught up and really getting into a rhythm cranking these guys out. Should have more consistent restocks as we really start to get into trout "season". Thank y'all for hanging in there with me. I really appreciate it.

I also want to apologize for my lack of communication over the last couple weeks. Been putting in a lot of hours trying to get caught up on production. Being sick a couple weeks ago really got me behind but we're getting caught up again. I appreciate everyone being patient with me. Really didn't anticipate the new lures would go over as well as they are. I appreciate y'all sticking with me!

What a week this has been. Late last weekend after avoiding it for the last few years, the COVID finally got me and it got me bad. I spent Sunday and Monday pretty much unable to get out of bed trying to kick a 103+ degree fever. Not how we were expecting to start our week of scouting for the third and final event of the REDFISH MADNESS 2 man series. My tournament partner .andy drove in from PA on Sunday and had to do the scouting for this event solo. He grinded hard but just didn't find the fish we needed. While we felt down we certainly didn't feel like we were out. I was making the mend and Andy secured the second launch position at the captains meeting Thursday night that gave us a 2.5 minute head start. We opted to make a bit of a run in our little prosports 1800ff to grind out game day in some of our confidence areas, and it paid off. The Soft Spot MINI reigned supreme for us filling our bag with 2 red fish weighing a total of 10.49lbs. Enough for 4th place out of a short 26 boat field. Going into the last event we sat 15th in points and the 4th place finish was enough to bump us up to 10th in points out of 60+ total competitors throughout the series. While we didn't make the podium, this was our best finish in a tournament since we started and we are extremely happy with our performance. Congrats to Corey Durako and Richard Gilligan on their big win and getting team of the year. And a Huge thanks to the entire Madness team for putting on a top tier tournament series. Time to get back in the shop to gear up for trout season.

Been a busy week! Most of these will be heading to Washington, NC later this week and a few to Goldsboro, NC. Website got restocked with a few tonight as well!

Took a slight break from the regular routine this morning to chase some of those Speckled fish. We didn't light 'em up but it was good to see a few fish around. It'll be prime time to target the big ones before long. Spicy Mango colored SUSPENDING TWITCH BAIT, Bone colored SOFT SPOT and Mardi Gras colored SOFT SPOT MINI did all the hard work. We just reeled them in.

Final update on the SOFT SPOT and SOFT SPOT MINI before they go live on the website on 9/1. I was planning to have them ready to go for today but had a few last minute hiccups that I want to address.
First, hooks. Originally I was planning to use VMC 9650 size 3 for the full size SOFT SPOT, but the odd size was making them difficult to source. I do have enough of the 9650 size 3 for the first batch but after that I will be switching them to the VMC 9651 size 2. The main difference between these two is the shank length, but overall it's a pretty negligible difference. And the 9651 is the same hook that I use on my other lures in a size 4. The SOFT SPOT MINI will have that same 9651 size 4.
Next, rattles. Both sizes have a glass rattle. I was originally going to use a rattle with a single bearing for both. However, halfway through producing this first batch I learned that the manufacturer of the smaller rattles for the MINI is no longer producing them. I was able to source a replacement, however it has two bearings. So to keep things the same between sizes, I will be changing both to use the double bearing rattle in their respective sizes. But for the first batch you will see some with single bearing rattles and some with double.
I will be offering 5 colors to start, in order as pictured: Gold Mullet, Blackjack, Mardi Gras, Bone, Electric Chicken. I hope to do a few more colors in the near future. I am also completely open to color suggestions. There are a lot of options available for this style of bait so suggestions are welcome. Feel free to comment or message me if you have ideas. But also keep in mind I'm just a guy in a garage and I won't be able to make them all.
Size, weight, sink rate.
The SOFT SPOT is 3.5" long, weighs a little over 1oz, and has a slow sink rate comparable to a Fatboy.
The SOFT SPOT MINI is 2.75" in length, weighs approximately 5/8oz and has sink rate similar to the full size SOFT SPOT.
