Since 2019 Morgantown Curling Club has offered Mountaineers the opportunity to try this Olympic sport.
Morgantown Curling Club offers Learn to Curls regularly throughout the Boparc ice season (August-March.)
There are some changes to our agreement with Boparc this ice season. (Our "grace period" to get our feet under us is over.) We'll be charged like every other ice organization for ice time from this date forward. That said, our membership dues are more important than ever. Dues help pay for ice time, liability insurance, and put fuel in our van to get the stones to and from the rink.
If you've held a standard membership in the past, THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO RENEW. If you are planning to curl with us this ice season, membership has it's perks:
Members get $25 Curling Sessions and a Club Builder Bonus (50% off one Learn to Curl for a friend/family member.) You'll receive a Morgantown Curling Club name tag and bumper sticker. And you're enrolled in USA CURLING's nationwide insurance program (supplemental insurance that travels with you, wherever you curl in the USA.)
Become a Morgantown Curling Club member today. To sign up, visit our website:
CLUB MEMBERSHIP | Mysite *Provides excess accident medical insurance if injured while participating in curling or on the ice. This insurance travels with club members to ANY venue where curling events take place.
Our 2024/25 Curling dates are up on the website. It's a truncated schedule due to renovations to the rink starting in February. Hoping to add a few more sessions, but the dates on the website have been confirmed.
2024 -2025 SESSIONS | Mysite Morgantown Curling Club's curling sessions are open to curlers of all levels. Each sesson is a mix of scrimmage games and Learn to Curls to give everyone a chance to grow. If you've curled or taken a Learn to Curl class, we will find you a place on the ice for a friemdly scrimmage.
Membership packages for the 2024-25 ice season are now open. For more information, visit our website.

The evolution of the modern curling broom is analogous to the history of the sport itself. The earliest brooms were manufactured from corn strands and were made to resemble household brooms. Seeking to improve the speed and force of the broom striking the ice (and reduce the amount of debris the brooms shed), manufacturing company Fern Marchessault inverted the corn straw to the center of the broom in 1958. Artificial brushes were introduced soon after with the aim of improving broom durability and performance. In the late 60s, professional curlers proved that the curling brushes could be as good or even better than corn brooms, especially when it came to directional sweeping. The majority of curlers then made the switch to the less costly and more efficient brush, a trend which dominates the curling industry to this day. Today, most curling brush handles are hollow tubes made of fiberglass or carbon fiber. These handles are lighter and stronger than previously used wooden handles, allowing faster sweeping and more downward force onto a brush head made of synthetic materials or hair.
