Iāve had just an Uber crazy weekā¦got sick, had to move people around, work on my days off. These little guys make it all worth while, though. Iāve been grooming for this family for a few years at another salon, and they just finally found me a few months ago. Just look at those happy faces! As the saying goes, reunited and it feels so good!

Not all brave boys wear capes! Oscar here is a bit of an unknown. Heās very young, and he was given up by his previous owner to his new parents. Heās very scared/nervous, and he needed some assurance today during the first groom we know of him having. Someone else in the van to help me out isnāt always the best thing to do, but there are times when itās needed, and today was one of those days. I know itās only going to get better from here!
Iām at this week, and my first class is on and . Iām hoping to never need to use this, but I am certified for humans, so it only made sense to get certified for dogs too. Continuing education is an important part of being a groomer.
Sometimes I just canāt get a dog dry all the way, and being that Iām in a grooming van, thereās not a lot of choice. I canāt fit a cage dryer in there, you know? So I tell my customers, ālook, if I stop now, next time will be better.ā Itās not my favorite thing to do, but I know from experience that if I stop now, next time will be better. Little Rocky here is proof positive that itās true. I have notes and texts between his mother and I, and last time, I had to stop. But this time! Look at that smile! He came up to me when I got to his house, we went for a quick potty walk around the yard, and he let me dry him. I was so happy, and momma was too. Every time is better, every time we are more comfortable with each other, and every time, your dog comes back to you, happier than when we left.
From grunge rock to punk rock! This client asked for a Mohawk, and I was only too happy to oblige. I love fun grooming, and the fact that they wanted to keep his epic eyelashes, just made it better.
I had this client for a few years when she owned a little yorkie mix named nugget. Unfortunately, Nuggie went over the rainbow bridge last year, and I felt so badly for her owner. Well, my client contacted me a few months ago to say that she had adopted little Evie here, an 8-year old , and they are both the most lucky people in the world! Iām so happy theyāve found each other, and that my client once again has the best dog in the world looking after her.
What can you do to get your dog ready for the groomer?
1. Go for a walk! Not only will your dog get out some nervous energy, the chances it will have an accident and need a second bath are minimized by a lot. I also personally think dogs are uncomfortable when they have to potty, just like humans, so it will just make for a cleaner, cleaner groom.
2. Have the leash and collar ready by the door, or even put it on your dog if you see me pull up outside. Dogs create habits, and it will begin to recognize the routine if getting ready to be groomed. Also, I do need a leash and collar for your dog. Your dog may be well behaved and have great recall for you, but as much as they might like me, being groomed is something else entirely. A leash will help me ensure that your pet does not get out of my control, or escape into a busy street!
3. Have realistic expectations. Those dogs on Pinterest and dog shows donāt even look like THAT. Photoshop, hair pieces, chalk to minimize tear and drool stainsā¦your dog doesnāt live in the pages of the internet, it lives with you, and itās better and more real than those other dogs, and thatās the personality that Iām trying to find while grooming your baby.
Huskies are always a dramatic groom. They have multi-layered coats, and just a month or two can see an overgrowth to the point that their hair comes spinning out like dandelion seeds. When you think of my tools, you probably automatically think of clippers and shears, but shampoo, conditioner, my , are all tools that are just as important, if not more. The first pic is this sweet girl when I got her from her owner. Not too bad, again, a husky can get overgrown in a warm state like Tennessee in just a matter of weeks. The second pic is after bath and blow out, and final pic is after brushing. What a difference a few hours with a groomer can make!
Having a dog with disabilities doesnāt always mean he canāt look his best! This little guy can stand, but heās super wobbly and just needs some help. I did a lot of his grooming with him laying or sitting down, and when he needed help standing, I used this hip holder.
We tried to get these boys to sit together, but Archie kept running to me for pets, which made Hank stand up too. I still think I got a pretty good pic.
Little miss Cady almost never gets this fuzzy, but weāve had some terrible snow in lately (now itās raining and humid lol rip my hair), and Iāve had to push Cadyās groom out a few weeks. Thankfully sheās back in fighting form, looking soulful as always.
I know it seems like I only post pictures of adorable brown dogs, but look at that face! She looks like a five year old on her first day of school and is so worried about not messing anything up, including her school portrait.
Before and after on my sweet . Heās been with me for several years and two job changes! He loves that Iām mobile now, and I groom him just outside his house in my sanitized van, and he can go back to his naps and belly rubs as soon as we are finished.
