Congratulations to Melisa Renfro, BSN, RN, ONC, and Justin Chambers, CNA, 5 South! They were presented Heroes with Halos Awards by Tobias Pugsley, VP/Marketing & Communications; Denise Clark, RN, MHA, MSN, 5 South Surgical Services Nurse Director; and members of the 5 South Staff.

An anonymous donor wrote:
"I would like to recognize the 5 South staff on behalf of a recent patient, whose life you touched when he was a patient on your floor. He talked about the very good service he received and that the whole unit consisted of super people who truly cared about him. He went on to say that there was no false caring, everyone was genuine and he had a very positive experience.

The impressive part of his story is the fact that he built a relationship with so many people on the floor. He spoke how certain people provided care in their own special way. They always showed him that not only did they care FOR him, but they also cared ABOUT him. Two of these special people are Melisa Renfro & Justin Chambers. Thank you!"

There's never been a better time to honor YOUR hero! Any Heroes with Halos honorarium received through August 31, 2024, will be matched by the Baxter Health Auxiliary. Both women and men who have a heart attack often have chest pain. However, women are more likely to experience these more subtle symptoms. Many women may not recognize that these are symptoms of a heart attack. Call 9-1-1 if you have these symptoms. Early treatment can limit damage to your heart and can save your life. https://go.nih.gov/KTn61VD

Your baby's crib, bassinet, or play yard should be in your room for at least the first 6 months. It's the safest choice for your little one. Easy access for feeding and comforting, while reducing SUID risk. Always put baby on their back into a bare, safety approved sleep space after feeding.

Sweet dreams!

Dr. Heath Broussard is the first in Arkansas to treat Peripheral Artery Disease using an innovative new treatment called the Percutaneous Transmural Arterial Bypass with the DETOUR System. He successfully performed the first two DETOUR procedures in August, helping his patients experience a fast recovery time and endure a minimally invasive procedure.

Peripheral Arterial Disease is a circulatory problem caused by blockages in the arteries, which can lead to a reduction in the flow of oxygenated blood to your body, particularly in your lower limbs. If left untreated, PAD can cause pain, loss of mobility, sores on your legs, feet, or toes, and in severe cases, amputation.

Baxter Health is committed to providing our patients with the latest and most innovative treatments. To learn more about the latest endovascular techniques and treatment options available, please visit our website at baxterhealth.org/vascularsurgery.

Adult mattresses are cozy but aren't safe for infants to sleep on, even for a short time. Soft surfaces increase the risk of accidental suffocation. Always use a firm, flat crib mattress specifically designed for infants when putting your baby to sleep.

Betty Dutton, LPN, Baxter Health Women and Newborn Care Center, was presented a Heroes with Halos Award by Ron Peterson, President & CEO; Tobias Pugsley, VP/Marketing & Communications; Amy Myers, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, WNCC Director; and other members of the WNCC staff.

She was nominated by a patient who wrote:
"My son was born in May and the first week of his life, he would not nurse from a bottle. On one of Ms. Betty’s shifts, she came into my room every 3 hours to help me try to get him to take his bottle. Throughout his screaming and fussing, she remained patient and that day we were able to get him to take almost every bottle. Ms. Betty is a blessing and without her help, I’m not sure what I would have done. During my stay, she requested to have my son every shift she worked, despite him needing extra care and patience.

Thank you so much Ms. Betty, for all of your help along this long journey – being patient with me and our son and not judging my situation. You truly are amazing at what you do, and it shows that you truly love your job!"
