At Key Rehab, we believe in continually enhancing the quality of care provided in skilled nursing facilities. Our second group of dedicated staff members has just completed the specialized training series, Parkinson’s Impact on the Elderly, our exceptional OTR and clinical leader, Kaitlin.

This 2-part CEU series empowered our team with advanced communication techniques and treatment strategies specifically designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s and similar conditions. With the successful completion of their skills check-off, these team members have gained valuable certifications, furthering our commitment to delivering outstanding support for quality measures.

Meet Mrs. Betty, one of the incredible residents at Medicalodges, Inc. of Fort Scott, working with our talented COTA, Amy D. from Key Rehab.

As Betty prepares to go home, she expressed a unique concern: “I make my own dog food, but I’m worried about being able to stand long enough to do that.” So, Amy stepped in and together they tackled it head-on during therapy!

Using an electric skillet and a crockpot, Betty cooked up her dog food recipe while practicing compensatory techniques that will help her stay safe at home. From placing a chair nearby for breaks to exploring different cooking methods, Betty now feels confident and ready to return home, knowing she can continue doing the things she loves!

Physical Therapy is also getting involved by helping Betty with safely packaging the food for her freezer.

This was a meaningful and functional therapy session that gave Betty the confidence and skills she needed to thrive at home!

Training Up Our Team: Elevating Expertise in Parkinson’s Care

At Key Rehab, we’re committed to providing the highest quality care for our residents, which is why we recently completed a specialized training series, Parkinson’s Impact on the Elderly, led by our very own Kaitlin, OTR and clinical leader.

Starting today! We're thrilled to announce our new partnership with Wisner Care Center in Wisner, NE, starting on October 14, 2024!

With 38 beds on the nursing home side and 16 on the assisted living side, Wisner Care Center offers a range of services including short term rehab.

Meet Margaret, a determined woman who came to New Aldaya after a tough hospital stay following a fall that left her with rib fractures and limited mobility. When she first started therapy with us, she needed the assistance of two people just to transfer and could only walk a few feet with her walker.

Despite the challenges—Margaret made steady progress. Each week, she grew stronger, improved her balance, and increased her endurance. After just 5 weeks of dedicated therapy, Margaret was able to safely return home independently, walking unlimited distances with her walker and completing her daily tasks on her own!

Margaret’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact physical therapy can have on reclaiming independence.
