Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church Youth Group
Here at NPC we believe that love, respect, and service define who we are as Christians and as a youth
Model Leadership
None of us want to live in fear, but we all do. This is not new but a common human experience. Fear limits us. Fear narrows our vision. Instead of seeing the future with hope, fear has us believe the future is a threat.
Even the first disciples saw the future as a threat, but Jesus teaches them invest in the future as we read in the Gospel of Mark 10:35-45.
We all live in fear and see the future as a threat, but this is not what Jesus wants for us. Fear is natural. Faith does not come naturally. Don’t panic if you don’t have faith, you have come to the right place! Anyone who is reading this and who follows Jesus Christ knows how easy it is to fall back into fear. Jesus knows how easy it is for us to fall back into fear.
James and John are so fearful, they cannot even imagine Heaven as a nonthreatening place. This is not the first time fear drives them. Read the Gospel of Mark and you will see that disciples of Jesus Christ transition from fear to faith. On the boat a storm kicks up and they fear they are going to die but Jesus teaches invest in faith. They see 5000 people and then at another time 4000 people and they fear they cannot feed them. Jesus teaches invest in the people. They fear not being the greatest disciple, Jesus teaches invest in the most vulnerable among us. The rich young man fears he does not have purpose, that he does not have meaning, that he does not have abundant life. Jesus teaches invest your life for the sake of others. For God, all things are possible!
None of us want to live in fear, but we all do. Jesus Christ is praying for you right now to follow Him to the cross. Jesus is praying for you right now to invest your life in His Church. Do you want to wake up tomorrow only to fear the future? Or do you want to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and invest in the future? The time is now. You cannot change the past, but with Jesus Christ you can invest in the future. Are you living in joyful response to Christ’s love?
As Jesus models leadership, the Lord prays that we will model leadership. Frugality is fear based. Investment is faith based.
Love,
Pastor Curtis
Did you know? Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville houses an emergency food pantry known as Loaves and Fishes. This pantry is separate from the Westmoreland County Food Bank network and provides three day’s worth of food for any area family in need. Call the church office to schedule a pickup today!
Just like that, our first Rocket League night is in the books! We had a full lobby and a great time (once we figured out how to play)! Be on the lookout for next week’s youth group shenanigans!
Youth groups are still happening, regardless of social distancing and stay at home orders!
By now you have most likely seen the NPC response letter to the COVID-19 pandemic our area is experiencing. There has been an overwhelming number of statements from public officials asking that we limit public gatherings and practice "social distancing".
Last night, Session met and decided the best course of action would be to cancel Sunday school, youth group, and other such events for this Sunday 3/15. They have not said yet, but I expect this will mirror the 2 weeks plan put forth by Gov. Wolf, so I would anticipate it will be the same next week. Josh and I are working on figuring out live-streaming worship, so please evaluate if you need to be in worship in person or if that's an option for your family.
Since FRSD is closed, RAM will not be happening over the next few weeks.
That being said, my goal is to stay in touch as much as possible.
I hesitate to post my cell # on social media, but feel free to message the page or email for that, my xbox live username, and/or the Nintendo switch username.
Fun is not cancelled.
Fellowship is not cancelled.
Now is the time to be imaginative in how we support one another.
As always, please reach out if you need anything. We are all in this together, and it takes a village.
Ed

Volunteers from Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church (Pennsylvania) helped our construction crew with a home rehabilitation project at Little Grapevine Creek in Perry County, building decking and making other home accessibility repairs. They also did some painting, roofing, and pitched in on some projects at the Hazard Pavilion. What a great group of people!
One of our work crews got featured on the WYMT 6:00 news last night! See anyone you recognize?
