Though our doors may be closed, we are open! We are excited to start offering one-on-one appointments during this transitional time. Napa County announced yesterday that retail stores can begin opening. The Home Index will continue to follow local and state protocols for opening the store, which includes both customers and employees to wear masks and practice social distancing. With so much going on in the world right now, I thought now would be a good time to take a break to reintroduce myself. Hi everybody, I'm Melissa Schmitt, founder and creative director of The Home Index and founder and lead designer of Melissa Schmitt Interiors. I started my career in interior design back in 2005, years later I decided to create, what was once known as Poor House, and now The Home Index, a local resource where interior design professionals and homeowners alike can gain inspiration and access to quality products and knowledge - all without leaving the valley. Along with the store, I have an interior design business where I design spaces for local residential and commercial projects, offering packages from full interior design, color consultations, room refreshes, two day packages and my new favorite, Virtual Interior Design! My team, business and myself continue to evolve with the changing times and I love staying on top of it all. So to those of you who I have know and to those of you I'm just meeting, welcome!

This winery project was a fun challenge for me and my team . See the before picture then all the great after photos. There are so many guests that visit this winery, we created modular seating so that different sized groups could enjoy the space. The custom tables connected to the backs of the modular seating is a great place for all the wine glasses to sit. We also designed and built the custom outdoor bar. Made from concrete and wood, this bar works great in this outdoor space. Another custom detail was the long bench that sits under the trees. That was a great way to get a lot of extra seating onto this patio.

Indoor/outdoor bathrooms are the best!! You get all the luxuries of an indoor bathroom and just steps away you are in an outdoor oasis. I enjoyed creating the shower with exposed plumbing, and designing the window to allow light into the vanity area while keeping it frosted on the bottom for privacy while in the shower. This master bathroom really came together just the way I envisioned it to.

How could you not be creative in a space like this?! I love lounging on my daybed on my lanai looking out at the yard for inspiration. Everybody should create a space that helps them relax and be more creative. What's your space look like? What inspires you? This is mine.

The sun is out and the doors are open! I am enjoying the mix between the beautiful weather we are having here in California and working from home. Feeling creative in our home office today.
