Operation Support our Troops - America
Serving Active-Duty Military, Veterans, and Gold Star Families since 2003.
OSOT - America (formerly known as OSOT - Illinois) was founded in 2003 by military moms who wanted to engage the community and average citizens in supporting troops. The effort has grown and the mission expanded such that the name was changed to allow the organization to be a greater part of the national dialogue about the needs of troops and veterans. OSOT - America is especially passionate at a national level about finding new and better treatments for Post Traumatic Stress.

Every June14th we celebrate Flag Day, a tribute to the American Flag, a powerful symbol of unity. Many years ago, on June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the "Stars and Stripes" as the original American flag. The same flag was used when the Declaration of Independence was signed to give a flag for the entire country rather than each state having their own. ๐บ๐ธ

Today we commemorate the 80th annivesary of D-Day and reflect upon and honor the selfless sacrifices made by so many. The D-Day operation of June 6, 1944, brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies in what became known as the largest amphibious invasion in military history. The operation, given the codename OVERLORD, delivered five naval assault divisions to the beaches of Normandy, France. The beaches were given the code names UTAH, OMAHA, GOLD, JUNO, and SWORD. The invasion force included 7,000 ships and landing craft manned by over 195,000 naval personnel from eight allied countries. Almost 133,000 troops from the United States, the British Commonwealth, and their allies, landed on D-Day. Casualties from these countries during the landing numbered 10,300. By June 30, over 850,000 men, 148,000 vehicles, and 570,000 tons of supplies had landed on the Normandy shores. Fighting by the brave soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the allied forces western front, and Russian forces on the eastern front, led to the defeat of German N**i forces. On May 7, 1945, German General Alfred Jodl signed an unconditional surrender at Reims, France.

"Operation Support Our Troops,
Thank you so much for your care packages! I am part of the Medical Department aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), an aircraft carrier based out of San Diego, CA, currently conducting routine carrier operations in the Western Pacific. You can follow both the U.S. Navy and our ship individually on social media to see some photos and updates about what weโve been doing since we left home! We have received your care packages and shared some of them with our friends in other departments including reactor and air wing.
Weโre all doing well and certainly keeping busy. Our department is responsible for the health of the entire crew, from routine occupational physicals to acute care for the sick and injured, including surgery when needed. There are about 40 people in the medical department and another 15 in the air wing medical team who work with us. It can be tiring to be on call 24/7 to care for our sailors, but we take our responsibility seriously and work hard to provide quality care.
Your care packages have provided a tremendous boost to morale and we deeply appreciate your generosity as well as the heartfelt messages in each box. We have several of the letters taped to the wall in our lobby where patients and staff can stop by and read them for encouragement. Especially popular items have been the drink mixes, toiletry items, meat sticks and candy. Thank you again for everything you do. We are proud to serve and deeply appreciate each one of you!"

Today we remember those who lost their lives defending our country and the loved ones they left behind, our Gold Star Families. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Memorial Day is the most expensive holiday on the calendar. Every grilled burger and hot dog at parties across this great Country is a DEBT that was paid by those who were willing to serve and sacrifice for our country and its citizens. It is a special day to remember, honor and reflect that others have selflessly given their life so we could enjoy our freedom and way of life. There are brokenhearted parents who never saw their son or daughter again, spouses who had to raise children alone and the children who would forever miss their parent. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, today and everyday, and always remember these American Patriots. ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ
The OldGuard continued its revered tradition of emplacing more than 260,000 American flags at Arlington National Cemetery, one at each headstone. Each flag represents a story of courage and sacrifice, reminding us of the true meaning of Memorial Day.
