ISAWWA staff Kali Spain and Shaunna Richardson attended the US EPA Climate Resilience Training for Water Sector Utilities in Northeast Illinois & Neighboring States. This seminar brought together industry professionals from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The training provided attendees with a unique perspective on the emerging issue of climate change. Training objectives included: highlighting how climate trend changes can affect water sector utilities now and into the future, learning how utilities can consider environmental justice and water equity in their climate adaptation planning efforts, and discussing available region-specific resources for financing climate resilient infrastructure projects and learn how to apply for suitable funding programs.

Last Thursday, ISAWWA along with WIAWWA and CSWEA hosted the Young Professionals Summit in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Young professionals within the total water industry attended this event where they toured the Linnwood Water Treatment Plant. The tour was engaging and provided young professionals with useful information as they kickstart their careers!

Kali Spain, ISAWWA’s Education and Government Affairs Specialist, attended the North Central Climate Collaborative and Agriculture Conference at the Peoria Civic Center yesterday morning. The conference provided attendees with a unique perspective on how climate change and the uniqueness to our time is impacting agriculture across the United States. Speakers discussed various software’s and resources that would help farmers predict climate impacts.

ISAWWA representatives met with IEPA staff this week to connect on key regulatory issues included LCRR, LCRI, PFAS, Cybersecurity and more. A report will be shared with members in the upcoming weeks. Thank you to IEPA for hosting our joint meeting.
