Looks like we had a marriage proposal at the finish line of the Blessing of the Fleet 10 Mile Road Race on Friday night. Thank you to Bethany Moore for sharing the photo! If you know the couple, please share with them.
SHE SAID YES!!!
Please enjoy these photos from yesterday's traditional Blessing of the Fleet in Galilee keeping in mind our commercial fishermen and women. Personally, it is this writer's favorite part of the weekend. I thought Bishop Henning's prayer was particularly meaningful and beautiful. It is a special moment when the young boys from a fishing family toss the wreaths into the channel in memory of those from the local fishing community who have lost their lives at sea while the bagpiper plays Amazing Grace.
May God bless and protect the families of our commercial fishing community!

The Beer Tent at the 2024 Blessing of the Fleet festival will be strictly 21+. Unfortunately, we will NOT be able to make exceptions to this rule for minors or young children, even if they are accompanied by an adult.
We understand that this may result in some "growing pains" for the festival and we anticipate that this may not be a popular policy with all of our guests. That said, this decision was based on direction from the Narragansett Police Department and the Narragansett Lions Club is firmly committed to delivering a safe environment for all of our festival attendees.
Please share this information with those in your own circles so that we can get the word out to the community at large!
Thank you!
As many fans of our 10 mile Blessing of the Fleet Race know, we sold out last Friday a week before the actual race. We acknowledge and understand that many people who were looking forward to participating in the race are disappointed.
The max allowed was 4,000 participants. This number was arrived at in consultation with the Narragansett Police and Fire Departments fully knowing that a small percentage would not show up. Therefore, we will not be able to transfer any bibs from one individual to another nor will we maintain a waiting list. If you get a bib from someone, you will run as that person and the results will be recorded as those of that person. We ask that you not run without a bib as that defeats the purpose of limiting numbers.
It has been said that the success of this event will ultimately result in its failure. Don't be one of those people who think only of themselves and end up ruining it for everyone. For the Narragansett Lions, this is our biggest fundraiser of the year. It enables us to contribute to many worthy causes and assist local individuals in need. Losing the race would be a real loss for the community.
Blessing of the Fleet Celebration - Narragansett Lions Club Blessing of the fleet, a series of events that include a road race, music and food festival and ceremonial blessing of local fishing vessels.
๐ข The parking lot at Salty Brine State Beach in Narragansett will be temporarily closed on Saturday, July 27, from 8:30 AM until 1 PM during the Narragansett Lions Clubโs 52nd annual Blessing of the Fleet celebration. During this time, the parking lot will be closed but the beach will remain open. The parking lot will reopen after 1 PM.
First held by the Narragansett Lions Club in 1972, the Blessing of the Fleet has grown into a beloved multi-day celebration that includes a road race, a festive parade of boats, great food, live music, and people by the thousands making wonderful new memories. This colorful event features a parade of decorated commercial and recreational watercraft. A local clergyman blesses each vessel as they pass as the spectators along the breachway wave and cheer them on. Annually, this free event allows the public to learn more about the Port of Galilee, the fishing industry, and the fleet who call the port home. For more information and a complete listing of Blessing of the Fleet events, please visit https://narragansettlionsclub.org/.
๐ท Tiny yet popular, Salty Brine State Beach allows beachgoers to enjoy close up views of fishing boats and ferries going by.
