As an Assistant Professor at URI Graduate School of Oceanography , Kristy uses geospatial and ecosystem modeling to study global change impacts on marine food webs and coastal communities. Her transdisciplinary approach emphasizes ecosystem resilience and environmental justice, working with diverse stakeholders to tackle pressing coastal challenges. Welcome aboard, Kristy!

Professor Amini's research interests span structural engineering, fluid-structure interaction modeling, multi-hazard analysis, risk assessment, and resilience modeling. His impressive portfolio includes developing computational frameworks to understand the impacts of multi-hazard events on buildings, assessing life safety risks, and enhancing economic resilience for coastal communities. New CI Senior Fellow Soni M. Pradhanang is a leading expert in water resources and water quality. Her research addresses the development of decision support systems for water resource management, focusing on how land use and climate change affect water and nutrient movement across varied terrains. Prof. Pradhanang's lab explores contaminants in drinking water, pollutant fluxes modeling, and the impacts of climate change on watershed biogeochemistry. Please join us in welcoming Soni!

Meet Jaclyn Witterschein! Jaclyn leads the Coastal Institute’s Climate Response Demonstration Sites, fostering partnerships and promoting research. She also co-leads the STEEP Superfund Research Translation team and is an Administrative Coordinator for the NAC-CESU. She holds an M.A. in Sustainability and Environmental Management from Harvard University and dual B.A.s in English Communications and Fine Art from Salve Regina University. We are lucky to have Jackie’s passion and expertise helping to drive the CI mission forward.

Napatree Point Conservation Area beach cleanup this weekend

Join us this Saturday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM for our Party for the Planet beach cleanup! The Watch Hill Conservancy and Mystic Aquarium are teaming up to make a difference in our local environment, and we need your help to achieve our goal of removing 500 lbs. of marine debris and trash from The Napatree Point Conservation Area.

Wear your favorite blue and green outfit as we celebrate Earth Month in style!

All ages are welcome.

Participants can use the free parking available throughout the village of Watch Hill.

On 3/28, one of the world's foremost oil spill scientists, alum Chris Reddy (Ph.D. ‘98) is coming to the University of Rhode Island Bay Campus to discuss communicating science in a crisis. His recent book, Science Communication in a Crisis: An Insider’s Guide, was created from Reddy’s commitment to make the science behind his work accessible and meaningful to the public.

From a young researcher eager to share his knowledge to a seasoned scientist sought out for his expertise and communication skills, Reddy shares lessons learned on the front lines of oil spills and other marine disasters — lessons that have application for scientists in all fields who wish to communicate effectively in times of crisis, as well as for journalists, industry professionals, and public servants whose work involves clear, informed crisis communication.
