Why am I in better shape at 37 than I was at 17?
It’s not the bike in my garage.
It’s not the program in my notebook.
It’s not the motivation in my head.
It’s not the supplements in my fridge.
It’s not the equipment in my gym.
It’s the people I have in my life.
What gets me great fitness results? It’s not my hardcore attitude (lol) or my genetics (LOLOL) or my extreme passion for feeling pain. It’s this:

If you have one minute, drop to the floor. Jump up again. Repeat as many times as you can.
If you have five minutes, sit down and stand up. When you get tired, turn around and do push-ups on the chair. When you get tired, go back to squats.
If you have ten minutes, pick four exercises and rotate through them: 20 seconds of work, then rest for 10 seconds.
If you have fifteen minutes, get on the floor and stand up. Do deep walking lunges for 10 steps. Get on the floor and stand up again, then walk back. The next round, do two burpees between the lunges, then 3, then 4...
If you have twenty minutes, go outside and run from one light pole to the next as fast as possible. Walk back. Then go again.
If you have thirty minutes, go outside. Walk for ten. Do the 10-minute workout above. Walk back.
If you have an hour, come to the gym with me. 😊
Your schedule will never be perfect. Do what you can in the time you have.

Get to know Allie:

When did you start working at Primal Athletics?
I started working at Primal Athletics on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024!

How long have you been doing CF and where did you start?
I have been doing CrossFit since 2016 but started dabbling in CrossFit while playing college soccer at Virginia Wesleyan University from 2012-2016.

Where are you originally from?
I was born in Massachusetts but moved frequently growing up! I’ve lived in Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois and New Hampshire.

What do you do outside the gym?
Outside the gym, I enjoy time on the lake with my dogs, Winni and Thomas.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
In 2020, I earned my pro card as a professional equestrian and have competed in hunt seat, jumpers, and dressage. In Maryland, I started riding horses and have owned two since. Currently my mom and I share our horse, Fergus.

“That the affiliates and the community came together on their own — independently together as all these micro gyms across the world to do this the same weekend is an expression of the power of this community globally to an awe-inspiring degree,” Castro said. “I mean, it's pretty impressive. This was not an organized thing. This was not our organized effort to make Murph a thing on Memorial Day weekend. This was something that the community said, ‘Hey, we are going to do (this) on our own as independent gyms,’ and it's now this massive collective."

Here’s the secret cure for stress: do something nice for someone else.

Here are 8 things you can do to feel better NOW:
- Send someone a quick voice mail on Messenger. Tell them why you appreciate them or why you thought of them last weekend.
- Thank 5 people - sincerely - through email, text or in person.
- Pay for the next dude’s coffee.
- Leave a 5-star review for your favorite business on Facebook or Google.
- Double your normal tip at lunch.
- Give the best “GOOD MORNING!” they’ll hear all day.
- Be the first to make eye contact. Smile when you do.
- Take someone for a walk on your break.

As soon as you pick one, turn off your phone and go do it. 😊 You’ll feel better right away. If you don’t, double the dose.

Get to know Billy a bit:

When did you start working at Primal Athletics?
Unofficially on staff as a photographer in Pepperell since 2020
Coaching under Primal Athletics at CrossFit Pepperell since August 2022

How long have you been doing CF and where did you start?
I started doing CrossFit in 2018 after my mom signed me up for a foundations membership at CrossFit Pepperell. I had very little interest or experience in the fitness world and was immediately hooked. Years later I am more passionate than ever about CrossFit and all of the community/positivity surrounding it.

Where are you originally from?
I grew up in Pepperell, I’ve come and gone a few times but I always seem to get pulled back home. I currently live in Pepperell with my girlfriend and soon our son as well!

What do you do outside the gym?
Outside of CrossFit I am very passionate about Photography, I love seeing things from different perspectives and have a creative itch that always needs to be scratched.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Despite my hatred for running, I’ve run 2 marathons (One being a 50K Ultra).

Let’s talk about three common mistakes in the sn**ch…

1. Hips rising early in the first pull-
Some lifters may struggle with positioning during the sn**ch (and clean) due to forcefully pulling the bar upwards. This can cause the lifter’s hips to shoot upwards, disrupting their balance and leading to technical errors or even missed lifts. Incorrect setup can also contribute to this problem.

🏋️ The pause sn**ch is a great tool to work on your positions and pinpoint areas to work.

2. The bar is coming away from you-
The barbell swinging away is often due to a lack of extension in the body vertically. Some lifters tend to unload their hips onto the barbell, which causes the bar to bounce forward off the hips and creates a large, arcing movement of the bar. This creates an “S-curve” motion, which can negatively impact the receiving position of the sn**ch.

🏋️ Sn**ch pulls + high hang sn**ches are a great way to teach you the feel of hitting triple extension.

3. Weight crashing down on you-
In situations where the barbell crashes down onto a lifter, it’s often due to poor timing, insufficient finishing in the extension, and/or limited overhead strength.

🏋️ To improve this you can work movements like, tall sn**ches, sn**ch balances, or overhead squats.

How can you do that? By setting yourself up for success!

Here are 3 tips to help you:
1. Before you go to bed tonight, make a plan for your week.
2. Schedule your workouts, prep some meals, and look at your weekly agenda so nothing sneaks up on you.
3. Get a jump start on any other tasks that tend to stress you out during the week when you fail to plan ahead.

You will be amazed at how ready you will feel for the week and how much more in control of the moment you will be!
