Station rotations made for a fun Friday! We explored objects relative density to water, annotated an article, explored a picture demonstrating changes in energy using conductors and insulators, and drew vocabulary words! Lots of learning going on in 5th grade!

We ended our lesson yesterday with a vocabulary word web game, and then we showed our connections by writing directly on the table! What teacher would allow this?! 😏

Who knew science could be so sweet? Today we explored the phases of matter using root beer floats! Matter is everywhere, even in a root beer float! You can find solids, liquids and gasses! >Solid: ice cream >Liquid: root beer >Gas: The ice cream and root beer mix and create bubbles called carbonation. When the carbonated root beer comes into contact with the ice cream, carbon dioxide bubbles release. The soda frees air bubbles trapped in the ice cream! What a sweet experiment. 🍨

We can identify the cultures of the major indigenous settlements Tennessee, including: the, Paleo, Archaic Woodland, and Mississippian. What a fun project using different resources to research a specific Native American tribe and share fun facts, languages, and impacts on Tennessee!

We have been exploring properties of matter, and today we put our knowledge to the test! We used a water bottle, vinegar, and baking soda to blow up a balloon! We watched the solid and liquid combine to form a gas which filled the balloon. Then we observed the chemical reaction in the bottle and even compared the density of oxygen and carbon dioxide with a scale! What a *solid* day! ⭐️🧪

Is it hot enough for crayons to melt? We began making predictions in the morning and discussed why students thought the crayons would melt. Then, students estimated what time of day the crayons would melt. Some students even suggested the darker ones would melt faster because they would absorb more heat!! What a fun science experiment to demonstrate how heat is the transfer of thermal energy!

Our Westmeade Drama Club is thrilled to be taking the stage this week to perform “Cinderella: The True Story!” Join us Thursday evening May 4th at 5:30pm in the Westmeade Cafe-torium! Tickets are $5 adults, $3 children ages 6-12. These can be pre-purchased with cash or check using the order form sent home in your child’s dragon folder or at the door cash only. Doors will open for the show at 5pm. We hope to see you there!
