Want to Spice Up your Upper Body Day?

It’s no secret I love training for speed and for power!

That’s no accident as the more motor units you recruit the more muscle fibers get recruited the stronger you get etc.

Plyo push-ups are phenomenal as a primer before your heavy compound movement of the day OR can be utilized during an upper body finisher. It should be noted that anything plyometric is great for increasing metabolic fatigue but should likely is not best for aerobic work!

The truth is I didn’t really have much to say…

Even now words are not coming to my mind easily.

The person we become after overcoming adversity is a beautiful thing.

This can be a slippery slope that ends with a revolving hamster wheel..

Training requires progression

This is so true I’m so many areas of your life.

You want to lose weight but your actions say otherwise.

You want to build your business but you choose Netflix over sending the emails.

You want to get stronger but you choose to do 2 reps less each set.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

I appreciate each and every one of you!

I woke up feeling very thankful and Blessed this morning.

Blessed with family and friends

Blessed with a Home we love

Blessed to be able to provide for the people I love.

Blessed to know God and speak to him daily.

With all my blessing I want to find ways this year to give to others more this year.

This year I vow to spend less time thinking of X’s and O’s , sets and reps and finding ways to give back to my community.

❗️Choose your Hard ❗️

Looking in the mirror and being disappointed or at the very least dissatisfied is HARD!

Committing to the process of losing fat and gain muscle is also HARD 👇🏼

➖Walk 10 k steps a day
➖ Strength Train 3 or more times a week.
➖Sleep 7-9 hours a night
➖eat .8-1.2 grams per lb in protein
➖Eat adequate carbs as they aid in regeneration of muscle tissue
➖ Reduce Stress ( if we are reducing calories and have additional stress eta our body will be resistant to fat loss)
➖Find a program and a coach that helps you ENJOY THE PROCESS

You see when I break it down it’s simple to understand why the process is so hard. But with proper guidance and accountability the process isn’t really that HARD.

Push-ups have a larger purpose 👇🏼

They resemble doing the little things

They aren’t cute and aren’t sexy

They aren’t gonna go viral on Instagram

But they are one of the basic movements that everyone should be a staple of everyone’s routine.

That’s the problem push-ups are basic and the basics aren’t cool but they WORK!

Long story short do the little things and do them GREAT.

This is the secret sauce you’re after not some new flashy protocol.

The results you desire are just outside the circle.

By the circle i mean the never ending hamster wheel of fad diets and non sustainable training modalities.

Your favorite influencer isn’t going to preach sustainable fat-loss because that doesn’t sell.

Your favorite strength coach isn’t gonna promote progressive overload because that takes along time.

This keeps you in the cycle of 8weeks of hard work (no recovery) followed by 8 weeks on a bender leaving you in a worse place then before.

Train hard
Eat for your goals
Recover like a champion

Knee surgeries

Cracked vertebrae

Torn shoulders

Team no sleep (parents am I right)

The list can go on and on

But at the end of the day YOU decide to either let excuses get in your way or you OVERCOME them.

Listen I get it this journey is not easy

Pain is 100% required to reach any of your goals

Sacrifices MUST be made and if anyone tells you otherwise they are a bold face liar

Fulfillment is much greater when you overcome adversity anyway ✊🏼

Don’t let excuses slow you down today

Get up and take your first step toward your dream or if you’re already chasing it keep going!

“Coach Carbs Make Me Fat”

This couldn’t be further from the truth

I would argue if utilized properly carbs are the most important macro nutrient 👀

Carbs aid in brain function (preferred fuel source)

Carbs drive muscle growth

Carbs drive recovery

Carbs are essential for training hard and recovering from that training!

Take my guy here 👆🏻 we have added over 700 calories a day and 100 carbs a day into his nutrition protocol.

Guess what happened? 30 lb of fat loss all while crushing PRs in the gym 💪🏻

Let me be honest with you.

If you want to lose fat you NEED to know how many calories you’re consuming.

If you want to maximize performance you NEED to maximize recovery

If you want to try and tackle both of these at the same time you NEED to maximize nutrition, maximize training stimulus, maximize recovery, maximize sleep and understand this does nothing happen over night.

You see typically we like to concentrate on one goal at a time (aesthetics, performance, longevity).

Some people depending on training age can pick 2 of the 3 and get results. However most trained individuals this is a difficult task.

So many people in this industry will sell you some BS program that will increase your bench by 100 lb while increasing your flexibility all while losing 50 pounds in 5 days….

We need to set the record straight having physiological changes takes hard work and dedication!

Training vs working out.

It should be made very clear there is a HUGE difference between the two.

To work out is to exercise without any long-term performance goals in mind.

Training is a specific selection of movements, movement patterns, and rest ratios programmed with a specific goal in mind.

The highest performers in the world TRAIN and you should to.

Let me ask you a question…

How committed are you to the desired outcome?

Let me be real you may not get to the finish line tomorrow but will the work you put in be worth it?

For my clients we prioritize the mindset shift that’s necessary to change the trajectory of our outcome.

Eating Whole Foods 90% of the time win ✅

Having Dinner with the guys or a cookout with the fam guilt free ✅

Not going to the gym because you have calories to make up for ✅

Having this mindset does not happen over night you have to put in the work.

Reflection…

As i sit here writing this post What was on my mind has been pretty heavy.

The reflection that I see in the mirror is it the same as other people view me?

Now let that sink in for a minute how many of you have that same thought process ?

You see many of you are “trying” you become the best version of yourself but trying might be just what’s holding you back!

I know this because it holds ME BACK. I have spent the past 5 days with 50 NfL athletes and 200 coaches from across North America. Still when I got home today after working multiple 12 hour days in a row I questioned was today enough?

I wrote this because I know there’s someone out there trying and I challenge you to start Doing! Do the thing that you committed do. Do the work to become successful!

Quit trying and start DOING.

Coach I’ve tried everything in the past and nothing works for me…

You know what works really damn well? Doing the basics and doing them great!

1️⃣ Train 3-5 x a week with intention on muscle growth 💪🏻

2️⃣ Eat real foods and get your protein in!
Research shows of calories are equal a higher protein diet yields better results for Fat Loss!

3️⃣ Recover harder than you train!
Get 7-9 hours of sleep, control your stress, and fuel the body for recover by eating adequate CARBS!
