Congratulations to our 2022 Diversity Scholarship recipient, La’Quevia Samuel! La’Quevia is a first generation college student currently pursuing her J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law. Her interest in advocating for underprivileged and underrepresented populations developed at an early age, which lead her to begin actively addressing issues concerning diversity and equality in her local communities.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Barry University, where she served as President of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and chartered a chapter of Leading Women of Tomorrow, an organization whose aim is to bridge the gender gap among public representatives by empowering young women and non-binary folks to consider careers in public service. In 2021, La’Quevia was recognized by Barry University’s 2021 Outstanding Leadership and Contribution to the University Award.

She also spent time interning as a case manager for the Miami-Dade Juvenile Services Department, where she assessed the likelihood of at-risk youth reoffending and developed appropriate treatment plans and sanctions. As a result, youths who completed their programs avoided damaging criminal records.

La’Quevia’s long-term career goal is to become a judge, where she plans to continue her work advocating for underrepresented communities. Please join us in congratulating this outstanding young woman.
