On May 13, we hosted a conversation with twelve school network leaders from several states running schools large (20,000 students) and small (250 students) to discuss what it would take to reopen schools. We're sharing a summary of what we discussed to continue the conversation around innovative best practices and the urgent questions that still need to be answered. Relevant resources are linked at the end. Reach out to us to continue the conversation at [email protected]

Check out our first blog post highlighting some key ways school communities can stay connected during remote schooling.
https://www.leveragedfoundation.org/post/staying-connected-when-schooling-goes-remote
Staying Connected When Schooling Goes Remote For the first time in history, over half of the world - four billion people - are under “stay at home” orders. Here are three key focus areas for school leaders and strategies to address during this time.
Thinking about how to ensure all students have access to educational programming? Even if kids don’t have internet access, if they have access to PBS, they can continue to learn every day. A phone call between LAUSD and PBS launched a large-scale remote learning initiative now being implemented by public TV stations across the country. Go to PBS LearningMedia | Teaching Resources For Students And Teachers and select your local station to find Pre-K to 12 resources and TV programming schedules in your area.

PBS LearningMedia | Teaching Resources For Students And Teachers Inspire your students with thousands of free teaching resources including videos, lesson plans, and games aligned to state and national standards.
Check out these Read Aloud Playlists! Though they are no substitute for a teacher, these hour-long playlists will keep your child engaged and thinking. If you have these books at home, have your child read along.
https://lnkd.in/eWgmXqJ
Here are some questions you can ask about any book, which are included at the end of each playlist:
- What were your favorite parts of the books? Why?
- Who were your favorite characters? Why?
- What was the most interesting thing you learned from the books?
- Why do you think the authors wrote these books?
- What questions would you want to ask the authors?
- Did the books end the way you thought they would?
- If you could change one thing in any of the books, what would it be?
- How could you use the books as inspiration for creating your own stories?
*Please note: at the end of each hour-long playlist, youtube will automatically play another video, one that may not be child-friendly. To prevent this happening, either set your preferences to loop or set a timer to come back and manually select a new playlist or video to play.
