Members of the Clarkstown Police Benevolent Association stopped by to recognize security guard Harold Brewer for his service and dedication to the children and staff of UNES. Congratulations Mr. Harold!

It was a very special morning program at Upper Nyack Elementary School last week. Members of the Clarkstown Police Benevolent Association and Clarkstown Police Department stopped by to recognize security guard Harold Brewer for his service and dedication to the children and staff of UNES as well as the PBA.

“Harold is the face that welcomes our school community while ensuring that our staff and students are safe every day,” said UNES Principal Craig Dreves. “We are so lucky to have Mr. Harold at UNES!”

Harold joined the Nyack Public Schools in 2006 as a member of the security team at Nyack High School. For the past 13 years he’s been a valuable member of the team at Upper Nyack. Congratulations Mr. Harold!

Rt 303 is open in both directions

Traffic Advisory:
Rt 303 Closure on Wednesday 11/29 10 am - 2 pm

On Wednesday, 11/29 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, the Clarkstown Police Department will be closing Rt. 303 in both directions. The closures will be from the Rt. 59 interchange to the Orangetown border. We are anticipating this to cause heavy traffic delays, please follow all detour signs and use alternative routes when possible.

The closure is part of a traffic study in conjunction with the NYSP.

The Congers Park Trailway will be closed Monday, November 27th through December 1st for repairs. A portion of the trail will be closed so residents will not be able to access the boardwalk on the west side of Congers Lake. Signs will be posted.

ROAD CLOSURE: Buena Vista Rd (New City)
A vehicle struck a utility pole on Buena Vista Rd just north of Brook Rd. during the overnight hours. Buena Vista will remain closed for most of the day. O & R has cut the power to parts of northern New City to make the repairs, the power outage will be for a limited time.

On Thursday, November 23, 2023 @ 12:15pm, officers responded to Clarkstown Town Hall for reports that the Israeli flag had been stolen from the flag pole on which it was flying.

A witness stated to our dispatchers that an unknown male wearing dark clothing was observed ripping the Israeli flag from its flag pole and was running toward Rt. 304. A responding officer quickly located the above described male on Congers Rd., just east of Rt. 304. The male was attempting to remove his sweatshirt and conceal the flag in it when officers stopped to question him. The male was placed under arrest and transported to CPD headquarters where he was processed. The case is being handled by our JAB - Detectives as the arrestee is 15 years of age.

The Clarkstown Police Department is continuing to investigate all aspects of this crime, including but not limited to the possibility of this being a hate crime.

*It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.*

NYSDOT will be doing center median cleaning of EB RT 59 between Smith St (RT 304) to the Palisades Center Mall this morning (Saturday Nov 18) from 7AM-1PM. DOT will have numerous workers on foot on the downhill section of RT 59 around Crosfield Ave therefore we will be closing that section of EB RT 59 for their safety from Larch Ct to Doscher Ave, detours will be posted

Last week, Chief Wanamaker joined Supervisor Hoehmann, and members of the town board at the annual Veteran Day ceremony held in New City.
Clarkstown Police Sgt. and Commander Navy Reserves, Kevin Shea, was the keynote speaker. Kevin spoke eloquently as he described what it means to him to be a Navy veteran.

The Clarkstown Police Department announces the retirement of Police Officer Tom Doyle. PO Doyle began his career in law enforcement with the New York City Police Department in July of 1981, before being hired by the Clarkstown Police Department in February of 1997.

Officer Doyle has had the pleasure of serving with two family members during his time at CPD, his brother, the late Det. Sgt. James “J.J.” Doyle and currently his daughter, PO C. Doyle. The “𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐉. 𝐃𝐨𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩”, was started by Tom and his family, that a great number of local graduating seniors have benefited from over the years.

Tom is recognized by fellow officers and the community for an outstanding record of loyal service and professionalism during the performance of his duties at the Clarkstown Police Department. We wish Tom a wonderful retirement and best of luck!

Last night our officers attended Trunk or Treats throughout the town, where they handed out candy to the little trick or treaters. This was an opportunity to build upon the relationship between our officers and the fantastic residents of this great community. Working with school administrations and PTA's, we were invited to participate at many different locations.

Chief Wanamaker and the men and women of the Clarkstown Police Department take pride in our community involvement and the amazing relationship that exists between our department and the schools. We hope everyone has a safe Halloween!

MISSING PERSON - ADULT FEMALE -
The Clarkstown Police Department is asking for assistance in locating a missing person from the New City area.

Rose McCormack (77 years old), left her residence on Ralphs Ave (New City), in the early hours of 10/26/23 and has not returned. Rose left the residence on foot in an unknown direction.
Rose is described as having brown hair, no other physical description, unknown clothing description. She suffers from both depression and dementia.

Anyone with information on Rose, is asked to contact the Clarkstown Police Department at (845)639-5800.

Great work Town of Ramapo Police Department & Clarkstown Police Department!

On Saturday night, the Ramapo Police Department received a report of a vehicle that had been stolen earlier in the day in the Village of New Hempstead. An investigation was conducted, and it was confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen. On Sunday morning, at approximately 1:10 am, RPD was notified by the Clarkstown Police Department , that their officers had stopped the vehicle and detained one male operator. The 35-year-old male from Monsey was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree (E-Felony) and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree (E-Felony). He was released on an appearance ticket for a future court appearance.

The Clarkstown Police Department has partnered with RCADD to participate in 𝑹𝒆𝒅 𝑹𝒊𝒃𝒃𝒐𝒏 𝑾𝒆𝒆𝒌 which runs from October 23 through the 31st.

𝑹𝒆𝒅 𝑹𝒊𝒃𝒃𝒐𝒏 𝑾𝒆𝒆𝒌 is an alcohol, to***co, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique "Kiki" Camerena in 1985.

This year's 𝑹𝒆𝒅 𝑹𝒊𝒃𝒃𝒐𝒏 𝑾𝒆𝒆𝒌 theme is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!

The Clarkstown Police Department is participating in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Program this Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. We will be at the CVS stores in New City and Bardonia. Stop by and drop off your unused or expired prescriptions. No liquids or needles will be accepted at any of the locations.

24/7 We will accept any unused / unwanted / expired medications at Clarkstown Police Department, located at 20 Maple Avenue, New City. No liquids or needles will be accepted at CPD.

D.A.R.E Officers Gavin and Mullins organized a successful "Sneaker" Hockey Tournament this past Wednesday evening. These officers did a great job of incorporating the benefits of teamwork and community. CPD would like to thank all of the students, their families and LP Teacher Mr. Eric Fenninger for making this event one to remember.
Congratulations to the Laurel Plains “Eagles” for winning the tournament!

This afternoon, at 4:00 pm, we will pay tribute to, Nyack PD Sgt. Edward O’Grady, Nyack PD Officer Waverly "Chipper" Brown and Brinks Guard Peter Paige, who were murdered on that fateful day. We will also come together as a community to stand resilient and show our respect for the good people we had the pleasure of calling our colleague, our friend and our family. May their souls rest in peace.

Students in the Better Together Club designed kindness posters with assistance from club leaders as well as Principal O’Sullivan and Clarkstown Police Department SRO Culianos. In addition to the posters, several other anti bullying messages will appear throughout the school. Outside the main office is a tree adorned with orange leaves that features positive sayings crafted by our sixth graders.

Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann hosted a security and safety briefing at Town Hall this afternoon to kick off Operation Omnipresent in response to a Hamas threat of a “global day of anger” planned for Friday, October 13, 2023.

There are NO SPECIFIC THREATS reported in the Town of Clarkstown at this time. In an abundance of caution, the Clarkstown Police Department will be operating on a heightened security protocol. The Clarkstown Police Department’s Cultural and Religious Security Unit (CaReS) will be fully activated to ensure the safety of numerous religious and cultural institutions across the town. This specialized task force was formed in 2020, and the Clarkstown Police Department is the only police department in the county that operates a unit dedicated to the protection of these institutions.

Participating in the briefing were members of Congressman Lawler’s staff, Senator Bill Weber, Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski and local officials.
