"The U.S. And the Holocaust" by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein premiered last night on PBS and includes Zulal Trio's vocal rendition of Ernest Block's "Prayer", originally written for violoncello. Thank you to the talented Johnny Gandelsman, who produced the music for this important three part series that sheds light on the consequences of public indifference and the reticence of the US to accept the refugees trying to escape the Holocaust. This sort of self-examination could not be more timely given where we stand today.

Another nail has been hammered into the door that keeps truth and hope imprisoned. As Armenians around the world mourn the Armenian Genocide and the ongoing ethnic violence sponsored by the Turkish government, Osman Kavala, an activist for ethnic minorities in Turkey (detained without conviction in 2017), was sentenced to life in prison today. This is a photo of the Soorp Giragos church in Diyarbakir, Dikranagerd, which we were able to photograph from afar since it was inaccessible after being damaged in clashes in 2015, only 4 years after a full restoration as a sign of hope and understanding. It is a visual reminder that justice remains far from reach.
