"What are y'all looking at?!"

The mission of this art business has always been to deepen the appreciation for visual art. The newest aspect of that mission is to create meaningful art to keep our loved ones close to us each and every day. Message me if you are interested in a digital or acrylic painting of your loved one.

Getting back into the swing of things.

The last section of The Geographic Migration of the Acadians mural is where the Cajuns emerge from the landscape. The sea flows into a cypress swamp where a bridge carries the Acadians (and other cultures) to the prairie, pasture and farmland of Louisiana.

Hey, that's the Art Box that I designed back in 2022! It tells of the Good Hope Hall in Freetown. Go see it at the corner of Johnston and Vermilion Streets!

Calling all artists to design an ArtBox!

AcA and LCG will create 20 new ArtBoxes in neighborhoods within the historic core of the City of Lafayette featuring artwork that celebrates the unique community and culture of these neighborhoods.

What’s an ArtBox?
ArtBoxes are traffic signal boxes that feature original artwork, printed on high-quality vinyl wraps. These ArtBoxes beautify our community and celebrate local culture.

How does it work?
Artists can submit a proposal with their original artwork to be installed on any of the proposed sites.

Selected artists will receive a $500 artists fee, paid upon completion of a final design.

Visit our website for submission portal, guidelines and a map outlining the potential sites: https://acadianacenterforthearts.org/opportunities-for-artists/artbox/

The third section of The Geographic Migration of the Acadians shows the couple swimming out of the depths of the wreckage and eventually washing up on the shores of Louisiana. The Acadians have overcome much suffering as they emerge onto a new land of change and hope.

About once every other year I get the chance to create a personalized portrait for someone to remember their loved one but this one is more special than any other. I'm really glad the family loves it!

The second section of the Geographic Migration of the Acadians is where the mural becomes very personal for me because many of my ancestors died at sea from the sinking of the Duke William on December 13th, 1758. This section depicts a ship leaving the Canadian Maritimes that will hit a storm with rough seas with another ship laying on the bottom of the sea and a couple swimming away from the wreckage. Unimaginable trauma happened to our culture in this section.

Getting ready for a carving good time soon! 🪚🔨

08/13/2024

The Geographic Migration of the Acadians mural is broken up into 4 sections. The first section is a depiction of the Expulsion of the Acadians from the modern Canadian Maritimes in 1758.

08/12/2024

The Geographic Migration of the Acadians is a mural painted on canvas that will be hung in the Acadian Cultural Center at the end of August. The expulsion and migration of the ancestors of so many of the South Louisiana people was a journey unimaginable to us today. I'm proud of this piece and look forward to showing it off in the coming months.

Only was able to finish the underpainting for the beach mural on Saturday. Will hopefully get back to finish it soon

Laying on the underpainting for a mural in my parents backyard. Painting a mural in August is no joke!

The main piece for my upcoming exhibition will be a melding of a mural and a canvas painting. It'll be 12'x3' and will depict a geographic timeline from the Expulsion of the Acadiens through their migration to the swamps and pastures of South Louisiana.

Primary Artworks' website will have a page for the Vermilion Mural Project that has created a deep impression on the students of the Lâche Pas Vermilion Program. Primary Artworks will provide the materials and supplies for all the murals this coming year.

Alligator bust cypress wood carving with Abbeville Red Iris painting on panel. Editing photos and outfitting the website. This one was sold but I love it so much that a similar creation will be available moving forward!

06/24/2024

Hopefully this slight obsession passes soon! 🤣

Thanks to the Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative for using the Abbeville Red Iris Mural done by the Lâche Pas Vermilion JH Williams School and completed by Blake Brodhead for their event advertising. Total community engagement at its finest!!

If you were not able to attend one of Patrick O'Connor's multiple presentations on the Abbeville Red iris during April and May in Vermilion Parish at Palmetto Island State Park, he is giving it again, this time in the New Orleans area during a Greater New Orleans Iris Society meeting.

Info on one of the Vermilion Parish presentations in April can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=447843704286741&set=a.274146088323171&type=3
