Help us meet our fundraising goal for GiveNOLA Day.
Charlotte Matthew, CEO of Legacy of Excellence, INC. is asking the Greater New Orleans Community to consider being a donor for Benjamin Franklin Elementary Mathematics and Science School (BFE) in this year’s GiveNOLA Day. GiveNOLA Day is a 24-hour event hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and presented by Baptist Community Ministries. This year it happens on May 4th. BFE is looking for funds to support their mission of enabling all students to excel academically and individually. BFE is a high poverty, high performing school with Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade classes, English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented, as well as a large special needs population. The dedicated staff works tirelessly to use cutting edge instructional processes and engagement strategies. As they come to the end of another challenging year affected by the Pandemic, your generosity will enable them go beyond expectations to enhance their teaching and create unique opportunities for students through mini-grants awarded for special projects.

Wisdom from last week's Talking NOLA Schools
What is GiveNOLA Day?
GiveNOLA Day, an initiative of the Greater New Orleans Foundation, is a one-day online giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations that are making our region stronger, creating a thriving community for all. GiveNOLA Day raises money for the community, brings new donors to local nonprofits, and demonstrates that everyone can be a philanthropist. Anyone can make a tax-deductible donation to a nonprofit that has created a profile on GiveNOLA.org. The minimum gift is $10 and there is no maximum size or number of donations you can make.
WHEN WILL GIVENOLA DAY 2021 TAKE PLACE?
GiveNOLA Day 2021 is from 12:00:01 a.m. to 11:59:59 p.m. central time on May 4. All event-related donations must be made online at www.GiveNOLA.org during this
24-hour period and the early giving period.

Leah Chase, a New Orleans chef, author, and television personality, was known as the Queen of Creole Cuisine. She advocated for both African-American art and Creole cooking. Her restaurant, Dooky Chase, was known as a gathering place during the 1960s among many who participated in the Civil Rights Movement, and was known as a gallery due to its extensive African-American art collection. In 2018 it was named one of the 40 most important restaurants of the past 40 years by Food & Wine.
Chase was the recipient of a multitude of awards and honors. In her 2002 biography, Chase's awards and honors occupy over two pages. Her accolades include being inducted into the James Beard Foundation's Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America in 2010 and being honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Southern Foodways Alliance in 2000.
