Moses Engineers is honored to have been part of the team, along with EskewDumezRipple Architecture, that completed the renovations at Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans. The project involved transforming the existing warehouse to create more office space, board & meeting rooms, & restrooms.

Our comprehensive design included:
• HVAC design, which featured the installation of a new air-cooled chiller.
• Plumbing for the new spaces.
• Electrical design, covering lighting, power for the new mechanical equipment, and data/IT systems.
• Fire protection system for the new office space, integrated with the main fire protection system.

We are proud to call Second Harvest Food Bank a client, and we support their mission. Recently, they played a crucial role in collecting food and supplies for Hurricane Francine victims, offering emergency food distribution and community support. They also accept community donations to quickly reach families in crisis and support our community as we rebuild after disasters.

NOMA Louisiana's mission for Project Pipeline is simple: "Empower youth to affect change through design."

In July, some of our New Orleans studio members, alongside our talented summer interns, had the privilege of joining the annual Summer Camp. This program, designed for 8th-12th graders, is more than just an introduction to architecture and design—it's a powerful platform for inspiring community impact.

Sustainability Design Coordinator Aida Ayuk emphasized the program's significance:

"In New Orleans, a city with a pressing need for diverse perspectives on issues like environmental resilience and equitable urban planning, Project Pipeline is crucial. It not only works to build a network of Black designers—who currently represent only 3% of the architecture field but also cultivates a new generation of changemakers poised to shape their communities' futures."

We're proud to stand with NOMA National in this important work and are excited about future opportunities to collaborate with these innovative young minds! 🌍✏️✨

Our Director of Sustainability & Building Performance, Z Smith, was recently featured in the Washington Post!

He spoke about the advantages of using sustainable alternatives to the traditional gas-powered generators, the benefits of a larger home system that combines both solar and battery storage, and the dangers of not choosing wisely.

"The economics of a battery and solar system, you get benefit all the time, whereas the generator is a dead loss and its benefit is only there during the power outage,” Smith said.

In the Press: Thrilled to see Baptist Community Ministries featured in the latest issue of Biz New Orleans

Among the amazing photos of the space are some project insight from Jill Traylor, Principal & Director of Interior Design at EDR.

“Contrasting with the existing stone and terrazzo within the building, we included elements of fluted glass, woven fabrics and screening elements to provide a welcoming space,” Traylor said. “Rich tones like navy and maroon, alongside tan leather, create a space with color and warmth.”

“We created the concept based on the values of transparency, warmth, strength, compassion and bonding,” said Traylor, “all of which are important to [BCM].”

Tulane University's River Hall & Lake Hall project has won a 2024 Green Good Design Sustainability Award!

The Green Good Design Awards were created to honor products and projects "that have forwarded exceptional thinking and inspired greater progress toward a more healthier and more sustainable universe."

Located in New Orleans, LA, River Hall & Lake Hall provide a dynamic and efficient building for students on campus, creating a comfortable environment for living, socialization, and activation.

In the pursuit of optimizing costs and sustainability, our team conducted a thorough 15- and 30-year Life Cycle Analysis focusing on building envelope and HVAC system options during the goal-setting kickoff with the client. Our analysis showed that the option that had the lowest annual energy cost and lowest life cycle cost was actually $5M cheaper in first cost than the system that client had assumed they preferred.

Our analysis demonstrated that the most cost-effective option, in terms of both annual energy and life cycle costs, not only met LEED Gold certification standards, but also exceeded performance standards for both LEED v4 and v4.1. This strategic approach ensures a balance between initial investment and long-term benefits while aligning with Tulane's sustainability goals.

We are honored to be recognized among so many incredible projects, products, and firms. Thank you for including us, Good Design Awards!

Bruce Museum has won a 2024 Green Good Design Sustainability Award!

The Green Good Design Awards were created to honor products and projects "that have forwarded exceptional thinking and inspired greater progress toward a more healthier and more sustainable universe."

Located in Greenwich, CT, the Bruce Museum's energy-efficient design showcases forward-thinking strategies that seamlessly combine aesthetic appeal with high performance. The facade's "lace wall" functions as a thermally broken enclosure with precast pieces suspended from a stainless-steel frame, ensuring an airtight and energy-efficient facade.

With a predicted Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 53, significantly below the regional benchmark of 182 for similar institutions, the project achieves an impressive energy reduction of over 70%, surpassing building code efficiency standards. The museum's commitment to sustainability extends to state-of-the-art air handling units and a dehumidification system, contributing to optimal building performance while minimizing energy consumption.

We are honored to be recognized among so many incredible projects, products, and firms. Thank you for including the Bruce!

The Dalney Building at Georgia Tech has won a Sustainability Achievement Award at the 2024 Aia New Orleans Design Awards!

Completed in collaboration with Collins Cooper Carusi, the Dalney Building combines three seemingly unrelated program elements—a parking structure, an office building, and a biological wastewater reclamation facility—into a single cohesive structure. This project relocates five acres of surface lots into structured parking, freeing the land to be transformed into the core of Georgia Tech's campus “Eco-Commons,” a nexus of green infrastructure and restored habitat.

It’s building as infrastructure, infrastructure as building, all placed in a restorative landscape.

Grateful for the recognition and even more grateful that projects like these can happen on higher educational campuses!

Moses Engineers is thrilled to spotlight the achievements and upcoming events of one of our esteemed clients, the New Orleans Culinary and Hospitality Institute (NOCHI). We were privileged to contribute to the transformation of a former Art Works Building into the dynamic NOCHI. The institute now boasts active learning classrooms, collaborative spaces, and a variety of unique teaching kitchens.

Additional features include rooftop terraces that serve as herb gardens, student commons, and expansive event areas. This 85,431 sq. ft. project was brought to life in collaboration with Eskew Dumez Ripple Architects and the Woodward Design Team.

We take immense pride in seeing our clients flourish and expand! A hearty congratulations to the June 2024 class on completing their 100-day certificate program! With a record 23 graduates, this has been NOCHI's largest class to date!

Stay tuned for more exciting happenings at NOCHI. Check out their website for information on upcoming classes, events, and auctions, such as the "Cooking for a Cause" auction and soiree event on September 18th.

Inspired by the work being done within, Blue Works, in Houma, LA, is a new research and education facility for the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON). The project complements LUMCON’s original but increasingly threatened facility in Cocodrie. If the original LUMCON facility allowed scientists from all over Louisiana access to facilities for research on the Gulf, Blue Works is designed to make that accessible to the public.
