Bittersweet business update: After 17 years of calling my 150 year old grande-dame of a building home on Magazine Street, I will be closing the commercial retail "branch" of Perch to focus on what inspires me most, interior design projects and collaborations with designers on custom furnishings. Perch's interior design services will continue as Perch Privé.
I will continue offering top to bottom interior design services to existing and new clients including sourcing contemporary, antique and vintage furniture, fixtures, fabrics, accessories and art and designing custom window treatments. Perch online will continue where I'll showcase a curated collection of finds. I'll also host regular pop ups in partnership with local and visiting creatives.
My retail store has been like a love letter to New Orleans, a joyful creative haven in a dreamy building on a singular street. My years as a shopkeeper have been some of the highlights of my life (so far!) and have granted me introductions to incredible clients, employees, vendor representatives, artists, designers, architects, neighbors and more, many of whom I'm now blessed to call dear friends. To these supportive friends, thank you! I will keep my by appointment home office above the shop for the transition! My contact information (phone and email address) will not change with the move.

This fleeting moment—an eye f*ck—signifies a shared, spontaneous gaze into the gaping abyss of desire. For its part, New Orleans has a long, fertile history with eye f*cking, as love and as a lure. In the early 1900s, photographer E.J. Bellocq captured Storyville s*x workers peering through his lens with inviting eyes. Now, in a new exhibition on Magazine Street, artist Alexis Nunnelly presents paintings, works on paper, custom clothing and handmade masks that shine a light on this touchless sensation of barefaced desire. Curated by Ryan Leahey, “Eye F*ck” opens Saturday, May 13, at Perch. Champagne will be served.

Signed “Saint Pastel on Cardboard 1987 Michael Heinrich,” by the noted Woodstock School of New York artist… Born in 1939 Heinrich was known for his colorful depictions of saints and epic figures. He often captured characters and imagery from his dreams and was constantly exploring the depths of his vibrant and imaginative unconscious mind. He died in 2018.
