In the past, mourners stopped the clocks in the rooms or houses where their loved ones died. This was an especially popular ritual during the Victorian period and was thought to prevent bad luck as well as symbolize the loved one’s passage into a new life without time. It was commonly done in conjunction with covering mirrors, closing curtains and turning over portraits of the loved one.
After Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert passed in 1861, she wore the mourning veil and some form of mourning dress up until her death in 1901. She never wore her Imperial State Crown again because it would have required her to take off her mourning veil.
We had the privilege of attending the dedication ceremony of the newly renovated Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall at the National Infantry Museum Foundation in Columbus, Georgia, on Vietnam War Veterans Day. The wall originally traveled and visited about over 200 Dignity Memorial locations, before retiring to the museum in 2014. The Georgia sun eventually took its toll, so the wall was refaced in a beautiful black granite.
Numerous Vietnam veterans were in attendance. General (Ret) Barry McCaffrey served as keynote speaker, and Colonel (Ret) Gregory Camp spoke about the history of the replica wall that provides soldiers and their families, as well as countless other museum visitors, the opportunity to visit, reflect and heal.

When Walter Morrison died in 2010, his family cremated him and turned him into the very toy Morrison invented in 1955, then under the name Pluto Platter. It would later become one of the most successful toys of all time under the new name adopted by Wham-O: the Frisbee.

According to a Ukrainian legend, a poor mother had no decorations for her Christmas tree. While everyone was sleeping, a friendly spider spun a web to decorate the tree. On Christmas morning, the family discovered the web turned to gold and silver in the sunlight. To this day, Ukranians decorate their trees with spider webs to bring good luck and good fortune for the upcoming year.
