BVM is excited to celebrate Juneteenth on Friday, June 16th! Students may dress down in Juneteenth colors (red, yellow, green, black) and will participate in our Juneteenth Roosting Rally at 12:20. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday 6/19!

In an effort to keep all scholars, staff and families safe, Brilla Public Charter Schools will be closed tomorrow, June 8th due to the deteriorating air quality from the Canadian Wildfires, in accordance with the guidance shared by the NYC Department of Health and local government officials.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will make a determination about Friday tomorrow afternoon. Additional messaging to follow via Parent Square. We hope that you and your families stay safe! DOH recommends that you limit your time outdoors and wear a mask. We will continue to monitor air quality levels and provide updates as they become available. Your safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adapting to this temporary change!

Continuing to highlight amazing women at BVM in honor of Women’s History Month, we would like to highlight our fantastic Ms. Brown!

When asked which women have influenced your journey as an educator, Ms. Brown responded:

“My mother. She is a former award winning educator who taught classes from kindergarten all the way up to 5th grade! She was my first teacher and continues to guide me with her wisdom when it comes to leading an effective classroom.”

Wow! Shout out to Ms. Brown and her mother for dedicating their hard work and passion to the betterment of our children! 🤩💯

In honor of Women’s History Month, BVM would like to highlight some of the amazing women at BVM starting with our orchestra teacher, Ms. Namakydoost!

When Ms. Namakydoost was asked which women have influenced her journey as an educator, she responded:

“Antonia Brico. She was the first major female orchestra conductor. She was the first woman to conduct the New York Philharmonic and she founded a string ensemble for female players. She fought through gender bias and became an accomplished conductor for all to look up to!”

Shout out to Ms. Namakydoost and all the work she does with all of our future artists! She is truly one of BVM’s Wonder Women! 🦸‍♀️🎻🌟
